Joe is a loser. I don’t mean that in the colloquial sense. I mean it in the sense that he’s someone that will take a winning hand and turn it into a L without fail, every time. In fact, a loser will self-sabotage if they even think they are going to win (see: Joe’s rap battle foray). Nobody expects anything from a loser, but winning creates expectations. You have to have a certain character to win consistently. The movie the Hustler has a great psychological breakdown of the mind of someone like Joe. Joe was always going to fukk this up, because that’s who he is.

...and “everyone” knew it too bcuz that was always a running “joke” on the show and amongst fans “how is joe gonna fukk this up?”

spotify wanted ownership of all their ventures outside the podcast as well as ownership of the podcast.

it was a bad deal 30 mill for your soul effectively a 360 from podcasting...
They sit and talk about the latest Shaderoom topics. 30 million sounds amazing to me.

What other ventures, The Pull-up? That shyt trash lol

Yeah I saw this coming and bushed the show permanently 3 months ago, it was a chore to get through it the last fe months I listened, and if you have a basal level of social intelligence the dynamics had changed. The MAGA Mal shyt made me realized show was no longer headed in the same direction as I am mentally so
:yeshrug:. I fw state of the culture but that seems deaded too. It's unfortunate, but the man has always been the biggest thing in his own way in all facets

exactly and then just like Dame he will be talking about these random ass Funky Finger Production ventures with very questionable value.

Joe should’ve sat his ass down and taken the Spotify deal. There’s nothing stopping Desus and Mero from putting effort into their podcast again and snatching up Joe’s lane or even co-signing some other cats if they don’t feel like talking about current industry shyt.
They're very cool with Joe, but they've always had philosophical differences as to how to approach the industry and while both have been successful, D&M are showing that sometimes having the right tact gets you farther.

You can be tough to deal with and still be wildly successful and have every door available to you. Joe is tough to where it stops being worth the headache. Somebody needs to have the Drumline "they don't hear you! They hear the band!" conversation with him.

I said it earlier. Desus and Mero's pod is fukking TERRIBLE now (shyt, since 2018), and their show on Showtime is completely unfunny but they're everywhere in the city. You can't cross any big metro area without seeing their name or faces on something.
Joe has no idea what the fukk he's doing, but wants to act like he is. Joe's pod went from having their name up in Times Square to fukking Patreon in two years.

Meanwhile, Desus and Mero interviewed Obama, this past year. Mind you, these guys came up from literally nothing--Twitter posters, to some MTV 2 show that two people watched, to Complex, to their own pod, to a show on Viceland to Showtime, to being invited on different shows, to being involved with movies and shows. They always move upward.

Joe, always has something good and then fumbles it while blaming everyone else or using vague cliches like, "Creators, b-but equity" It's all bullshyt. He wants to be a boss without knowing anything about it.

How you reject 30 m from Spotify for a show where you just talk shyt:russ: Like it’s not the hardest thing to duplicate, and it was a clear overrating of the podcast brand in general.

They don’t even have the visual or comedic element that Drink Champs has, for me that’s a podcast that’s worth so much more because the unique selling point it has of getting guests rap legends to tell their stories under the influence of weed and liquor, Joe Budden podcast is just them talking shyt and you reject 30 m, because you’ve listened to one two Jigga bars about ownership.

A good businessman knows when to take a good deal, Joe ain’t one.

D&M are completely phoning it in at this point. And you’re right, their podcast has been shyt for a looooong time. And you could see them on some “fukk it” shyt during the Vice show.

I get that getting high before/during shows is their thing but the focus needs to be there so these shows are clean and the content is tight. I watched 2 episodes of the Showtime show and it was tough to get thru. So I stick with the podcast and Desus is literally the John and Paul of the duo. Mero just doesn’t have it except for some bits here and there.

You can tell that they are at a point where they legit need some writers. And real talk, 85 South is better than all of these cats. I’d rather watch old clips of their live shows instead of these weak stamina podcasts.

Thing is 85 South cats are legitimately funny and don't follow the flavor of the moment as far as content. They kind of do their own thing, and tour as well as steal the show on Wild N Out.

They did get writers, they got the best Blavity had to offer :troll:.
But yeah, despite all of that they've managed to fall upwards, so it's interesting to compare them to Joe. They managed to build a brand even if they've been terrible for years.
As for the show itself, it's pretty bad. What made the Vice show good was the fact that it was phoned in, because it was Vice. Watching them interview people is a struggle because both of them are really bad at it. They're actually best off just reacting to clips than anything else.
