It's NY hood kitsch

I think if you are nostalgic for when NY had reputable street music being made by it's biggest artists, or the Millennium era in general - You'll have a soft spot for Swizz and what he was doing at that time. The visuals, the movements, he was a part of that

I don't think he's done anything interesting musically beyond that first spark. That sound doesn't exist anymore on a mainstream or even underground level

So to me it's just nostalgia driving that convo or him being visible outside of music (power couple) that raises his profile. He's more of a brand at this point

New Yorkers don't even feel him like that.

I bet that the person who puts Swizz in their Top 5, is the same person that puts Fab in their Top 5
I can't speak for one person, but regionally, I have never heard a contingent of NY heads dig Swizz Beats like that.

Never

I don't live in NY so this is where I can't add much, even though I don't think it's possible that he has no fans there, his catalog is NY street music. It's definitely folks that love millennium era music that hold him in high regard

Bro talking about “aged horribly” shyt sounded bad back then! Like how people will say 80’s production aged horrible.. even though a lot didn’t, Swizz shyt was cool THEN! A lot of his shyt don’t sound good at all now. He ain’t seeing Marley Marl. I don’t know who was producing for The Pharcyde and a lot of those Oakland mcs back in the 90’s but Swizz ain’t seeing them! Top 5?? Above Dilla?!! GTFOH! :russ:

He was not loved like that. Folks outta town often embraced a NY artist or sound more than NYers. He was never viewed on RZA, Pete Rock, Havoc level

If somebody asked why Timbaland was a Top 5-10 Hip Hop producer and I used an Aaliyah or Ginuwine song to make my case, I'd be laughed. I never got why people would classify Tim or The Neptunes as R&B producers, but give a pass to Dilla.

Value the opinion of a nig with undeniable crackhead energy brehs, this generation cooked

Think about how many producers there have been since hip hop started til now. Why would any non-crackhead even consider Swizz Top 5 ever? Just think about it. Is he even Top 5 of his 5 year era?
