I like when people say "IWW>Illmatic" because even though I disagree, at least it stops the whole "Nas only has one classic album" thing.

That being said, IWW (as dope as it is) doesn't have one of these

Illmatic been called the GOAT so long that it becomes cooler to pick something else over it.

lol, you def got a point, that's called "counterculture" actually. in my case though i just like IWW more, but I'm sure a lot of people fall under what you just said.

I feel there is too much revisionism in hip-hop. Illmatic been called the GOAT so long that it becomes cooler to pick something else over it.

:ohhh:

I agree with this statement

I dont think it's necessarily better..but I dont hate on people who say so..cause like I said..ALOT of people became Nas fans off the strength of IWW and like the fact that it's a lil less raw sounding...

nikkas try to shyt on IWW but fail to realize he got majority of his fanbase off the strength of that album...I had Illmatic when it dropped tho...

which is why so many of his fans are cornballs who lack perspective and true stripes.

EVERYONE HAD ILLMATIC.

just cuz some kids who were young as fukk bought into IWW and grew up with nostalgia for it doesn't mean spit.

it's better for sure. everybody bytches about 'nas is comming". yeah that was a bad track, but it was still dope lyrically. this is how the album should have been released.

intro
deja vu(with a different first verse, and a more polished beat)
the message
street dreams(alternate 3rd verse)
i gave you power
watch dem nikkas(alternate 3rd verse, unedited)
take it in blood
affirmative action
the set up
silent murder
black girl lost
suspect
shootouts
live nikka rap
if i ruled the world
street dreams remix or sinful living

he was definately better lyrically/artistically 95-96 than he was in 92-94. IWW, unreleased material and guest appearances prove this.

a lot of songs on illmatic were just rappin ass rappin though, or had a concept but were all over place(ny state of mind, memory lane second verse, the world is yours).

street dream = pac jack

watch dem nikkas = quiet storm, gentle beat

affirmative action = nauseating, generic Spanish guitar beat w/foxy verse

if i ruled the world = weak, sellout single

the message = gentle ass trackmasterz rehash of a sting song

suspect has a boring beat

live nikka rap sounds like a mobb deep song featuring Nas

nas is coming is nas is coming

shootouts is pretty good but i don't love it love it like some.

the only grade A moments on the album are:

take it in blood

i gave you power

black girl lost
