Similarly, the share of Democrats who say funding for local police should be decreased has fallen markedly – from 41% in 2020 to 25% today. By comparison, the share of Republicans who prefer less spending – which was already quite low – has moved incrementally lower. Growing shares of Republicans and Democrats alike now say police funding should be increased in their area.


Among Democrats, Black (38%) and Hispanic (39%) adults are more likely than White adults (32%) to say spending on police in their area should be increased. There is no significant difference across these racial and ethnic groups in the share of adults who say spending should be decreased.

Im all for holding cops accountable and reversing all the milittarization of cops but we are in the middle of a mass crime wave and it's an election year. Of course he's gonna show support for law enforcement. Real voters are worried about the visible spike in crime and want to see it addressed.

Seen this coming a mile away. It's politics. Democrats look soft on crime with midterms coming. Narratives are set with Chicago jackings, Asian women getting assaulted in NY, homeless people committing crimes, smash n grabs in SF with impunity, etc.

Biden just got ahead of GOP talking points. I doubt we'll see new federal legislation on crime. States and cities in blue states, however, were just given the green light.

Until we can police ourselves, no serious anti police brutality movement can survive.
