Yeah I think Tyrese was miscast here, IMO. Jody was supposed to be 20 in Baby Boy, even though Tyrese was only like 22 or 23 when the movie came out he looked much older.
It was written for Pac who despite being around the same age as Tyrese had the gravitas of a much older man. That said, some nikkas look old. We all knew the nikka in HS with the full beard as a junior :pachaha:

The whole concept behind the film was that Jody was an overgrown child. He was just that. He was lazy, irresponsible, whiny, and the absolute worst kinda soft...soft with a big mouth that played tough. He was a true unlikable protaganist. If we keeping it all the way real, Melvin took it easy on him. nikka a certifed killa, coming off a bid and this lil soft ass snotty nose ass still living with his mama ass nikka talking tough shyt in his face? Melvin lowkey saw Jody for what he was and actually tried to help him. nikka gave him a Scared Straight right in his living room.

He was in his early 20s when the movie was written for him and when he died was wasnt much older than Tyrese was in the movie.
Most people in Hollywood play a role a couple/few years younger than them. Tyrese playing Jody at 22 is normal.

Pac would've truly been in his late 20s by the time the movie was made and the dynamic you spoke on would be amplified. In the 90s the difference between a 20-22 y/o and 25+ man is bigger than it is now.

Jody other baby had her head on tight and he didn’t want to work it out with her

Yvette on the other hand accepting rodney calls because she said “ rodney is lonely “ WTF bytch “:gucci:
How did u meet this jail bird nikka anyway..

And u immediately let a ex con move in your crib with your kid with other gang nikkas up in your crib..

But when Rodney refused to get at least a dish washing job to help out, u start weighing your options with him and jody and realized “yeah jody wasn’t that bad, let me tell him rodney hurt the boy”

bytch was toxic

None of that changes the fact the Singleton wrote it with Pac in mind and wanted him in that role.

Jody behavior was learned from his mammy and nonexistent father

I don’t blame him at all
And 20 isn’t old at all

Must’ve forgot his mama never left and was a 2x pregnant teenager

Not only that she wasn’t fully grown
Her buff ass was in her 40s still fukking with hood nikkas

The movie became a cult classic, and is now treated kind of like a joke, but when I was watching in theaters in 2001, took it 100% serious lol

of course I was about 15, but in a lot ways that are sometimes overlooked now, it's a real movie, with real themes about masculinity, violence, relationships, dysfunction, maturity, abuse, redemption, forgiveness, work. it's a movie essentially about middle class values, and the aspiration towards them. This is why Singleton was a master in his time.

it's a movie about the way life is for a lot of people. The thing is you don't have to side with either, Jody or Melvin. That's the way things are framed in 2024. but, you are meant to connect and relate to both characters. When you are young, you see Jody more, when you are older you probably see Melvin more.

But it does change that they weren't the same age.
I didnt sat they were. Reread my original post that you quoted.

Matter fact thats my bad. I shouldve specified I was talking about when the movie was written for him not in general.
