Through the years, rule changes in basketball have often been made with a particular player in mind. George Mikan's dominating center play was responsible for widening the lane from 8 to 12 feet. When Wilt Chamberlain was piling up points, the lane was widened again, this time to its present 16 feet. While Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, then known as Lew Alcindor, was playing at U.C.L.A., the dunk shot was eliminated from the college game.

A new N.B.A. rule this season prohibits teams from putting more than two men on the side of the court away from the ball below the top of the foul circle. A violation would result in the loss of possession.

Almost as soon as the new rule was announced, it became known as the ''Michael Jordan Rule,'' because of Jordan's masterly one-on-one play.

where in the article does it state that the rules were designed to help Jordan? the article makes it clear that the rules were "challenges" and the purpose was to slow down the scoring. this article was written after jordans FIRST scoring title. he averaged 37 ppg on 48% from the floor. this was facing zone traps, double and triple teams. I think the rules were designed to slow HIM down, but that didn't work because he had 9 additional scoring titles

its common knowledge that the NBA changed rules to help Jordan.

get in touch with your oldheads.

I don’t mind lesser former professional players critiquing other professional players actually prefer it than some nerd who doesn’t even know how to do a crossover... but to undermine and shyt on them when you weren’t even in their stratosphere

be smart.

not one negative word was said about anyone in the video.

Rick Barry kinda did this also.

yea.

rick barry was the first player that came to mind when I saw larry bird mentioned.

bird wasn't anything new or game-changing.

D Wade I get, and Kobe I can at least understand the idea of 'not' transformation, just great...but Bird and Magic saved the league, each with their own style of play at their size and immediately changed everything. They transformed the league by saving it, then Jordan came on and took it from there.

I don't know how you could even debate that honestly.

saving the league and transforming the game are two different things.

saving the league and transforming the game are two different things.

Jimmy Jax is kinda using them interchangeably. He keeps mentioning larger than life personas, which only a handful can claim. He's not really talking about the on-court gameplay. That's why people here are having 2 different discussions.

I’m not sure what Jim Jackson means all of these dudes are alltime goats...Allen Iverson was transformational but he was not better than any of these dudes...D Wade is a top 4 SG of alltime.
