There's a difference self reflection and modesty compared a lot of jokes and antics that have been said and done over the years and calling it comedy.

Naw because the entertainment these days is being outraged and mad and going on twitter and trying to take people down. Society has decided that being angry is more entertaining than being funny
The only comedy that has survived is meme culture
And some of it should be outraged and taken down because it should have never been socially acceptable in the first place. All comedy and satire isn't the same and it's disingenuous to sit here and pretend like it is.
You and Jerry can spin it however you want, but that point still stands.
If Jerry is as great of a comedian as you and others say he is, then surely he can adapt with the changing of times and culture.

Until you can point out someone doing comedy ‘the right way’ then this has no meaning. Because you aren’t really giving examples of things to counteract what bad comedy or socially unacceptable comedy is.
All your arguement boils down to “comedy was bad back then” and now that there aren’t a plethora of budding new comedians or comedic shows all the evidence points to what Jerry is saying. They killed the art form with moral grand standing.
It’s like if the NBA stopped allowing dunking because it resulted in too much long term injuries for the players. Yeah, the players are safer but interest in basketball would plummet

Some of those jokes that Al was using towards Marcy would definitely not be socially acceptable today especially considering that he had actually had towards her when he used it. You're proving my point without even realizing it.
Using dunking and the NBA is a terrible comparison so surely you could come up with a better example to defend your argument.

Old white men's reaction to "wokeness" has the same existential crisis feeling that white people felt when school integration, television, and electricity were introduced.
The only people who go home and turn on network television to watch comedies are old people, like him. CBS has plenty of popular sitcoms. We don't know about them because we aren't 60 years old. Most other people are using cable or streaming. If comedy is dying it's because people's interests are shifting towards more serious shows. Over the last 10-15 years most of the shows with maximum cultural impact have been pretty serious. Game Of Thrones, Breaking Bad, etc. And yet last year the Ted show (comedy) was one of the biggest shows of the year. And nobody would call it "woke."
If you want to say more wack, "woke" comedies exist now as Netflix/Amazon/etc try to appeal to zoomers then sure ok. But wokeness hasn't killed comedy, people just enjoy other genres more now.
