Very good point. I agree, I'm speaking from hindsight. When I was those kids' age, I wasn't thinking that far into the future, either. But you are talking as an adult. As a child, very few people in this thread would have done that which is why its funny to hear people talk about pressing him for advice, internships, etc. I know for a fact at that age I wasn't even thinking about college or the future. I had worry about things in the present and I'm sure a lot of those kids are in the same boat.
I was only making an anecdote. He sold books long before other products.
Jesus Christ, I can go through the threads and instantly tell who is a retail workers with ease.
Say breh, humor me for a moment and explain how you would go from being a kid in that high school classroom to an amazon intern making a 100K?
Records show that fewer than 1 percent of students passed the math portion of a 2019 national standardized test administered by the District, and about 16 percent passed the English portion.
He ain't "cool" enough to their broke asses. They probably strive to be NBA youngboy. Herpes and all
Fam... these kids haven't even graduated high school yet, and you're suggesting they flat out ask Bezos for a job? The folks you're talking about older, more experienced, and hungry for a job (hence shooting their shot at random).Simple, if coding is something they are interested on then just like any sport or anything else they just need to get good at it..not even that just show hunger and potential
Ik not talking just to talk, because I'm a software engineer myself that has worked in silicon valley but now I'm in nyc. The asian, white and indian kids out west were getting internships left and right...some didnt even go to college.
Amazon, google, linkedin, apple and others all have apprenticeship programs just for people that show a willingness to learn and get better(you also have to work very hard) because programmers dont really stay at a company for a long time and these companies need people
IBM, Amazon, and Microsoft Now Have Apprenticeship Programs – Technical Education Post
Amazon is going to train 100,000 workers in these 6 areas of tech
I received a google and apple interview just from randomly talking to someone that works for the companies on the train so I'm just smh when I see people in this thread saying bezo's isnt a big deal
No one is saying to shuck and jive but life is a game and people who dont at it well just get left behind imo
same. but im not sure ida had the maturity or foresight to capitalize on him visiting ...seeing it as a real opportunity to do anythingDamn my parents musta really raised me to be knowledgeable about the world becuz by 15 of course I knew Bill Gates was the richest man in the world
I guess I was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more advanced than these kids at that age

Second, unless it's for an executive position, why would Bezos be involved in hiring a grunt?
If these kids have the desire, then they'll eventually land that gig with a tech company. Bezos handout not required.
They wasted an opportunity of a lifetime and they dont even know it
Yeah I can't get over that. I'm more interested in how things managed to get that bad and what is being done to make improvements.jesus christ
I thought we had bad test scores in the south and in my district, but thats fukking ridiculous
some major changes need to be made up there.
ExactlyYou think Jeff Bezos is out here handing out lucrative deals on these school trips? He's just smiling and waving. At best you'll get a photo op or a canned speech about how "you as the youth are the future" at such an event.
