Elysium was the opposite tho, in that earth was trashed and the elites lived in space.

But Jeff bezos plan makes more sense. The earth is the real prize. It'll be a long time before humanity is capable of teraforming mars or traveling to another habitable world.

So in the in-between time, before that happens, earth is where it's at. That's the gem.

They just gotta figure out how to trick enough people to voluntarily leave earth for space.

Well about that... Soon as you're 20 miles up you're not in america anymore.

I dunno about that. Most of his assets are here. Most of the resources propping him up in the vacuum of space are shipped from America to those magic space cylinders. And his cellular/satellite connectivity is based on what America's space infrastructure allows him to access.


He'd be no different than the Roanoke colonists if America stopped sending him supplies in space. He'd also be a sitting duck if America decided to attack him for breaking human rights, similar to how natzis were powerless after US involvement in ww2. Not because of technological advancement of the us(Germany had us beat) but because of the sheer amount of resources this place can throw at him.


Now of course this will change after a few hundred years as colonies become independent, no different from how Canada no longer needs the UK. But that'll be a while...

Well of course it will be a cooperative thing. But you face different laws just traveling from one state to another. Of course traveling to space will carry a much different set of rules then we're currently used to.

And personally I fear it will be diabolical, especially if Bezos has his way.
