The best thing about Jigga era diss records is that pure disdain and disgust in Jay's tone.
Tracks like Friend or Foe 1 & 2 (well they're not diss records technically but you get the point) and and Ride or Die.
The way he delivered that make money off yo album than you line is just...vulgar. lol.

"Vol 2" gets what I call "Revisionist" hate. There's a lot of new Jay fans mad it was more successful than albums like "Blueprint" and "The Black Album". The only beef I have with "Vol 2" was I felt Jay leaned to hard on the features. He didn't carry the album cause of that. If you have to many features than I'm sorry you aren't carrying your album period. With that said he shined on every damn song. It reminds me of "Capitol Punishment" that same year. Pun had callabo's out the ass but he bodied each track. Jay went in on each track on Vol 2. Also because it's Jay's most popular and successful album fans think it's cool to sh!t on. Since I'm one of Jay's day 1 fans I tend to enjoy "Reasonable Doubt, Vol 1 and Vol 2" than a lot of his later albums and work.

And before people say "Wait a minute, Jay was a Platinum artist in 98 when the 112 song Drop". The song was recorded early 98 when Jay was still a Gold artist:

JAY ZIN MY LIFETIME, VOLUME INOVEMBER 04, 1997JANUARY 26, 1998ROC-A-FELLA RECORDSSTANDARDGOLDALBUMSOLO

"In My Lifetime" wasn't certified Platinum until 99. Basically it got a Sales bump when Jay finally blew up with "Hard Knock Life". At that point Ma$e was on multiple #1 singles, Multiple Platinum and gold singles and his debut was selling like hot cakes. In 97-early 98 Ma$e was the 2nd Biggest rapper in NY next to Biggie sales and popularity wise. Now No I do not like Ma$e more than Jay nor do I think Ma$e is the better emcee though Ma$e did do things better than Jay (I actually think Ma$e had a smoother flow than Jay honestly though Jay's flow is still amazing)
your my breh but you gotta chill with bringing up album sales and platnium so much...

Jay was just disrespectful... I remember him dissing (dutch & spade or was it philly's most wanted or major figgas) on do it again.. and he did it on the song with beans when beans brought them to him...

always liked Mase's response on "Do What Playas Do" off the Violators compilation

Vol 2 was a dope album and still is. had a lot of guest features but you can play it all the way through (I skip Can I get A just cuz it was played out before the album came out).
