let's not forget we have rappers like Future rapping about zannies & syrup, and kids are now doing that shyt.

Future's role is so minimal when you look at the people who really push and promote prescription drug culture with impunity

this nikka rap about selling drugs every song tho:stopitslime:

Does that mean he is wrong then?

i agree, but that's why i don't take alot of these articles seriously. Hov & the rest of these rappers needs to start at home first, we need rappers to start making REAL music again. no more coke, guns & murder raps. we need substance back in this genre again.

So he raises some valid statistical points, however the comparisons, which always lean towards minorities being incarcerated at a higher rate almost always correlate with environment. This is something we tend not to acknowledge.

For example, cocaine use higher among whites than blacks but incarceration rates higher among blacks than whites. The example of Crown Heights vs. the area surrounding Columbia University can be mirrored across the country. Whenever these types of comparisons are made, we don't take into consideration the environmental implications that contribute to the disproportionate arrest and incarceration rates. I know systemic racism and class-ism plays a role and I'm not overlooking that, however the obvious difference is affluent areas tend to have more "recreational" drug users where impoverished areas tend to have more "drug abusers" or people with what we are coming to discover have an addiction that needs to be treated like a disease or mental health issue.

The majority of us agree that "recreational" drug users typically pose no threat to others and should be free to live as they choose. We also tend to agree that people who abuse drugs to the point of not being able to function in society pose a threat to those around them. As a politician in a major city or a member of law enforcement, where am I going to send my cops?

I definitely understand the disproportion and the unfairness of it; the fact that so many of our people are placed in situations where we don't get a fair shake in society and how much of a role that plays in us leading down a path of potential incarceration, however do we truly recognize the difference between someone who uses/sells recreational drugs vs someone who uses/sells drugs to people that cannot function in society and live in impoverished areas?

I'm not promoting recreational drug use or suggesting that drug dealers vet their clientele and start to only sell to high-end, fully functional adults, but it sure makes a helluva lot more sense than helping to destroy a community that's already being unfairly targeted :manny:

If you want that you gotta vote with your pockets for that. The peons are voting with theirs and are getting what they want.
