I read what u wrote wrong but either way what u said is still false cause it removes all context to what set the stage for Jay to be as popular in the first place. Also Jay was never the most popular. He was just the most consistently popular.
So basically you have no answer because you know I’m right :mjlol:. Nas was more popular than Jay in 1996, he cleared him by 98 and never looked back:dead:

Insert rapper here was more popular than insert rapper here this year so he would’ve been more popping 15 years down the line is laughable :mjlol:

Funny u bring up Nas. Cause in 99 Nas outsold Jay first week numbers and had 2 multi plat albums that year. So how did he “clear” him exactly? Again u don’t know wtf u talking about.

Didn't Nastradamus come out at the end of 99? Like December. How did that manage to go plat in a month?

Yeah he cleared him. He was more popular in 1998 than Nas ever was. V3 is 3 times plat, sold more than I am.

Again you never named the rappers who was bigger than Jay in 96 that he didn’t eventually surpass because it destroyed your argument :dead:

Also Jay was never the most popular. He was just the most consistently popular. Jay ain’t even popular for his music at this point. And a rapper who was around selling records when Jay was popular and is more popular than him right now is Will Smith. Which is the type of shyt I believe Pac would be on. Son was writing scripts that became hit movies after his death. Such as Baby Boy. Let alone his acting.
My man said will smith :heh:

When was the last time will smiths music was more popping than Jay? The last time we anticipated a will verse? The last time a will verse shut shyt down? Or a single? :dead:

Exactly, which was the point. No rapper who was more popping that Jay in 1996 is more popping than he is in 2023, he cleared everyone. Snoop drop an album it ain’t outselling Jay, Nas drop a album, it ain’t outselling Jay, Busta Drop an album Jay outselling him 10x

Oscars is Stretch :heh: You know how many talented black actors have zero?:heh:

I doubt he’d stop rapping he just woulda been surpassed by other rappers

For example there is no rapper who was more popular than Jay Z in 1996 who is bigger than him right now. He cleared 99% of them by 98

This is just goofy. You tried to slick move tbt goalpost from ‘Would have fizzled out’ to ‘not as popular as jay z’

Also it’s goofy to pinpoint 1996 specifically, or to only focus on rappers

There’s Diddy, LL, Ice Cube, Dre, Snoop, Eminem….theres also folk who branched off from other areas like Jamie foxx, Will smith, mark walhberg, The rock. Pac would been like them. Not even debatable.

The only argument is how would that have looked. And I agree with buddy who said he’d have an Oscar by now

No rapper who was bigger than Jay Z in 1996 is bigger than him right now, 99% of the people who were bigger than him in 96 weren’t bigger by even 1998 much less 2023. 96 was the Jay Z dropped is first album so that’s a fair starting point.

That’s not some crazy argument, for the record we are talking about music. Ice cube acting career is irrelevant to the music.

Nah again you’re moving the goalpost. You said ‘He woulda washed out by now’. That has a clear connotation to overall success, not just folk who no longer drop music. You wouldn’t say Ice cube is washed out, or Dr Dre washed out, or will smith washed out :aicmon: That’s something you say about a Keith Murray, or a Ras Kass. Someone who is not newsworthy at all. You said it like Pac would be a reoccurring guest on Vladtv right now:beli:

I don't remember his rap career like many of you do but remember a twitter algo sending me a link of him working in his business in Saudi Arabia and spiting a few bars. I don't have that tweet handy.

Great interview on his new life abroad.

You know
I guess I'll be the one to say it

2pac's Greatest Hits (1998) is on the billboard 100 right now
That album is truly one of the best “greatest hit’s albums” (Bob Marley greatest hits also)of all time. It was a great tribute to pac as an artist. Remember when it was released.:flabbynsick: Edit: sometimes they get lazy with greatest hits album. You can tell it was done with love and appreciation.

My “speculation” is every artist who peaked in the 1990’s wasn’t nearly as popular 15-20 years later sales wise. 99% were washed, and it’s not just rap.
If you’re talking strictly popularity then remember how HUGE Snoop and Dre were in the 90s.. by 96 Pac had lapped both in popularity..he was on fire and just getting started.. no way he cools off in 2-3yrs for Jay Z or anyone else to touch him or even get close to ending him. .. he is still getting talked about now after being dead 30yrs.. if he was walking around now I’d argue he be even more popular and relevant..he wouldn’t just be off somewhere chilling.
