This is nothing but Donald Trump using a government agency to attack one of his enemies. Jay and Beyonce are the two wealthiest and most famous black people going up against Trump with absolutely no fear.

Donald Trump is attempting to make an example out of them.

You can't blow off a subpoena.
I wouldn't say you could blow it off like it's some nonchalant thing but there are things you can do legally to get out of it.
The system is funny in a way because they have created ways where legally you can beat them.
Not sure why they devised a system that can be rendered obsolete but they have.
Maybe they know that even if you beat them on certain points, overall they still have you.
Or the fact that you are using a branch of their system (law) to fight them so you're still in the system and they win anyway.
Or, or, the Crown never intended for the average Joe to know the law and that knowledge was only for a select few. I think it's a mixture of a few things

True story. About two weeks ago someone tells me that they got a call saying that they tried some info from a YT video to avoid paying a parking ticket and it worked. Evidently I sent the video and they passed it on to the person who successfully used the defense. I don't even remember the damn video to be honest. Point is most people just pay and keep it moving but if you know the law you don't have to. I've seen people beat banks over foreclosures too.
==========================================
Wasn't Jay subpoenaed when that guy wanted a dna test to see if Jay was his dad or was that just a rumor? I think I'm the one who posted that thread a couple years back. Never heard about it after that.

Smart move by the SEC :manny:

Yeah, assets get written down to 0 every day in corporate America. But when large write-downs coincide with accounting irregularities and an announced restatement of financials...:francis:

Not to mention a stock price chart like this:

:picard::picard:

And debt due in mid-March that they were unable to pay (even in one of the most liberal financing environments ever since the housing bubble) :huhldup:

Jay-Z isn't the target of this investigation. At least not yet. But if what I'm reading between the lines is correct, this isn't going to stay with the SEC for long - the FBI will be getting involved at some point. :merchant:

Getting Jay-Z on record with testimony that is anything but 100% complimentary of Iconix's management practices throughout the sale process and his subsequent post-sale marketing & promotion partnership with Iconix will make this case a slam dunk for whatever federal prosecutor ends up taking it on. :manny:

Jay-z's testimony is worth its weight in gold to a prosecutor...his name recognition and fame alone lends anything he says immediate credibility...and don't forget that these cases usually get tried in NYC :ufdup:

Again, Jay-Z isn't the target here. He sold the asset. But after selling it, he stayed involved with Iconix - and that left him open to subpoena because of his involvement with the company post-sale. :francis:

If he was a target, there would have been no second subpoena asking him nicely to give the SEC some times he'd be available to chat. This was made public to jolt him into action and get ready to (whether intentionally or inadvertently) throw some Iconix executives under the bus :francis:

Like BIG said...mo money mo problems :wow:

Many poorly run apparel companies have struggled over the last 10 years. American retail has been a difficult market bc it was overbuilt and the rise of amazon/ecommerce.

I also doubt a company that owns umbro and rocawear as its halo brands is exceptionally well run.

If it was worth even close to that much at the time of sale or if there’s financial fukkery, I can’t say. But losing that much in value for what was a trendy rapper/label brand over ten years in a shyt market doesn’t sound all that odd tbh.

That's why he's not testifying. You ain't got to show up for a subpoena although you're supposed to. I hate them thangs tbo because they will hound you. My x girl lawyer did that shyt to me. I lied on the stand for her and she got off. Was facing 5 year. She returned the favor I was riding dirty once. Got pulled over, she was with me. She knew the cop who was a breh
He let me go. Woulda neen a felony:wow:

I agree 100%. Like I said, a 100% write-down of the Rocawear asset, or any brand asset in the apparel business is nothing suspicious.

But restatement of financials plus missing debt service and key executive departures just as those accounting "irregularities" start to come to light? :francis:

I don't think Jay had anything to do with any of this nonsense. But the SEC getting him on record with testimony that is even slightly derogatory towards the former management of Iconix is all a good prosecutor will need if/when this gets forwarded to federal prosecutors :francis:

Subpoenaing him is also a way to let former Iconix executives know that the SEC isn't playing around - they may be in the middle of confidential settlement talks that have stalled, and this is an excellent way to get things moving again by showing some of the leverage the government may have should things escalate :francis:

It's a chess game :wow:

Sounds like the value of Rocaware was inflated and the company that bought it wrote it off as a total loss. SEC/FEDs probably wondering about money laundering. Seems standard
