This ain't been true since the 80's, early 90's when the vast majority of artists were teens/21-22 and the fans were around the same age.
The most popular best selling rappers are 30, or above and everyone is a fan from 12 to 60.

Best selling rappers are older because they have a chance to build a fanbase and mature as a commercially viable artist...
Hip Hop culture is led by the youth...nobody outchea is getting what is cool and what is hip and what is in from Nas...they get it from younger nikkas...
Jay Z and Nas and 2Chains ain't dictating what Hip Hop is currently is or will be 10 years from now.
And yeah older people are Hip Hop fans...my dad is a Hip Hop fan...and he ain't keeping up with the shyt whatsoever...he couldn't tell you shyt about a Lil Uzi or a Young Thug....
Hip Hop is for the young...and popularized and promoted by the young....
