Jay Stans, if you refuse to admit that DMX was bigger than Jay in 98, can you at least admit this

Maybe, but this whole thread was a response to having no numbers to back up the argument in original thread of X being more popular in 98.
The point of this thread was precisely to stay away from the QUANTITATIVE debate and talk about art.

And the first thing this stan do is to go back to numbers and bring a dumb smart Jay-Z quote.

Right, sales doesn't equal quality... and IDAHIH is definitely better than Vol2. But the original thread was a good discussion, where facts were presented to challenge the narrative of X being bigger in 98 which has been repeated as a fact on this site over and over through out the years. There's a reason there was a shift from the quantity debate.

Volume 2 lyrically and flow wise on a different tier

But Jay Z is a much better rapper than DMX so that’s expected
Volume 2 is kinda light in the cakes lyrically…with the 1-2 obvious exceptions of course. Only album lyrically worse is Blueprint, imo.

And like somebody said, that album…like a lot of Jayz’s music, aged like a stressed out alcoholic white housewife

“Flesh of my flesh” was below average to me…It’s Dark one of my favorite albums ever tho.

It’s Dark >>> Vol 2
Vol 2 >>> Flesh

Yeah, Dark is a much better album in literally every way than Volume 2

I like Flesh, I think it's a good album but it was literally made because of how popular X got after his debut, Def Jam offered him 1 million dollars to drop a second album to capitalize off his new popularity. It was a rush job, but it still had mad slaps on there like Slippin, Coming From (my favorite song on the album), Keep Your shyt, Ain't No Way, Title track, Heat, We Don't Give A.. etc...but I agree that Volume 2 is better but to me, by an edge.

The blueprint was praised universally because it was the perfect marriage of lyrics and production :mjlol:

20 years later people are trying to rewrite and claim the lyrics weren’t good :mjlol:

People? You heard others say it too? That’s fire lol. 🤷🏽‍♂️, to me, just being objective and listening to the album, it’s lyrically his worst album by far. The music tho, production and all that, is like an A+ tho

The nonsense we read here. :mjlol:

The only thing left of that album is Ether and the top notch production.

:yeshrug: Vol. 2 ain’t ever better than Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood, if we being honest about it.

Correct…Vol 2 doesn’t belong in any comparison to It’s Dark.

RD and maybe Blueprint (BP1 overrated af)…

Vol 1, 2, Dynasty, etc aren’t near classic level and just aren’t comparable to It’s Dark.
