Its hard to unbiasedly review this album because like I said before, its not a PROPER debut and Hov is so NICE on this shyt even though its not his style.
One thing after this, I don’t EVER wanna hear another nikka say that Jay Elect wrote for Nas when Hov just damn near outrapped Jay on 8 damn songs using Jay Elect’s “style” thats really just a fusion of Conscious Nas/Mos Def/ and a little Killah Priest for good measure. Supreme MC’s can do this style no problem.
I think the album would’ve done better to showcase what makes Jay Elect more unique by including Better In Tune With The Infinite, Dear Moleskin, or another entry in the Exhibit series produced by Just Blaze.

This is what I expected and not what I expected at the same time.
I fux with it first off. It's almost like he pulled off the magic track he talked about by making Jay-Z appear on 70% of his debut album.
As far as the bars go - sharp as I expected. Production is as varied as I expected it to be. I liked not knowing what kinda sound they were gonna rock with from song to song, though. Once they got past the whole 'There's no single' of it all - making this must have been way easier to do.
As far as his 'character' goes - he still has that mystique to him. He's the guy from New Orlean who went from being homeless, started rolling with The Nation, made music with Dilla, to having a baby with Badu, to making classic music with Just Blaze, nearly getting signed to Puff, signing with RocNation, to dating a member of one of the world's richest families, to releasing his debut album - 13 years late, in the middle of a pandemic, and it just so happens to feature one of the greatest rappers of all time, who has bought into his wave - whatever his reasoning is. @TheDarceKnight do you remember a snippet Alchemist and Jay Electronica both posted on IG say maybe two years ago? It had a image that was underwater and had a beat playing. Thats the same beat from "The Neverending Story"

Only thing I'm upset about is the lack of Just Blaze beats. I am thoroughly impressed that Jay produced most of this himself. He's got a great ear. And Hov and Jay have great chemistry together.

really rely on a "God" or beg one to get you where you want to be.
I get it, I know people I literally was sitting beside a couple years ago, a half step from homeless working two jobs
trying to continue my education. They kept praying while I made the moves I had to.
