Our short review for this album

Jay Electronica- A Written Testimony
Roc Nation / March 2020
4 Mics
It's getting harder and hard to argue against Jay-z owning the #1 slot all time.
Rappers tend to fall off a cliff moving into their 40’s nonetheless their 50’s- but Hov is a different type of beast. I’m not saying he's the clear cut #1 but to effortlessly float on an album with depth at 50 is pretty damn impressive. The requiems of struggle are interlaced with a beautiful production tapestry created in large part by Jay Elec himself. He should get a lot of credit for the temperature of the album but certainly the fact that my first reaction was about Jay-Z is a bit of a shall we say “Gift and Curse” for this album? Sorry to hit the double entendre there.
Jay Elec took a little over 10 years to drop this project, but like they say better late than never, and it's a damn good project. There are no weak tracks here, this is an album that will get better and better with time. If you know about Gods and Earths and 5%er theory and belief this is a refreshing plate of theology in hip hop for you. Jay Elec mixes in the teachings of the Nation of Islam with muses on his current state and carerrer.
We had a debate about giving this album a 4.5, it stays at 4 for the minute but maybe the only real thing it's missing is time to marinate a little more. This is a real solid piece of work, do your ears a favor and enjoy the flavor of two Jay’s going bar for bar.
Oh and Shaun Corey Carter- Please let Alchemist do a whole album for you? Thanks
