Jason Takes Manhattan is EASILY the worst in the franchise.

And in the end, that's all that matters with these flicks. Cats acting like Friday the 13th represents high art. How can that movie be a travesty and boooo remakes when this existsL

Glad to see the 09 remake get some love. My best friend and I are definite advocates of it especially when compared to the rest of the series
There was just too much nonsense to ignore in the remake.
Jason holding bytches hostage.
Sam from Supernatural being more brolic than Jason.
The fact that Camp Crystal Lake was built on top of a mining shaft. And who builds a mine next to a lake anyway?
The townsfolk knowing about/keeping Jason's secret like he was just some harmless hobo who lived in the woods.

1. FRIDAY THE 13TH PART VI: JASON LIVES

Here’s the huge exception I was talking about. Despite the fact that it is very much in “Zombie Jason” territory Jason Lives is, on most days, my favorite Friday The 13th film. It’s of course helped immensely Thom Matthews’ energetic turn as Tommy Jarvis and by Jennifer Cooke’s appealing and charismatic performance as Megan. But the primary factor here is the script – it’s actually smart. Even though it came a decade before Scream we can see a little post modern self awareness creeping into the film, but in just the right (almost unnoticeable) dose. The winningly cavalier manner in which Jason is resurrected as well as the nod to 007 in the opening credits are indicators that the filmmakers knew exactly where they wanted to go with the franchise.

It also helps that this entry has something that almost none of the other F13 films have – forward momentum. Writer/director Tom McLoughlin actually cared about the story and the narrative here unfolds at a breakneck pace compared to the surrounding entries. Tommy Jarvis is the most pro-active protagonist in the series and the script even includes a ticking clock element with the impending arrival of the kids at Camp Crystal Lake. Even David Kagen’s Sheriff Michael Garris, a would-be antagonist, feels justifiably motivated and has a nice character reversal in the end.

Jason Lives has it all. Blood, gore, smarts, sex, the outdoors, and an actual plot. It’s the clear winner of the franchise.
This list is automatically invalidated by this choice of number one.

Oh but the rest of the series is filled with nothing but sound logic breh? We can't praise nonsense in one but decry it in another

:popcorn:I'm finna watch "Jason X" from 2002. It's the only "Friday the 13th" movie I've never watched from beginning to end. I've saw part or most of the movie years ago in the mid-2000's on the Sci-Fi channel..

The remake was just as bad as the worst of the franchise though. And comparing it to either the OG or Part 2 (which introduced Jason) or The Final Chapter only serves to illustrate how bad the remake was in every way because those movies, while not high art, were well made films within the slasher genre. The remake is just garbage.

The remake wasn't that bad. I swear people over-exaggerate just because it was a "remake". Just hard-nosed "Elite" fans who hate on it. Yeah the mine shaft under a kids camp was really stupid. Yeah the acting was kinda cheesy. Yeah the girls in the movie had fake t*ts. But overall the movie was a fun popcorn flick that I enjoyed and everyone else I knew enjoyed. Jason actually looked like a serious and realistic serial killer. The killings in the movie were unique and :scarysitebob:. My favorite one being when he uses the bow and arrow. Showing that Jason has SKILLS. Back to the mind shaft under camp. Again it was stupid, but iirc the producers/writers wanted to make sense on how he teleports. The movie wasn't bad. The Friday The 13th franchise was never a "blockbuster" franchise to begin with. As a huge fan(who watched ALL the films; including FVJ and read some of the comics) the original films were never that good. They were just films you would take your girlfriend to see so she would hug you. IMO the remake did NOTHING wrong that ruined the "legacy" of the original Friday The 13th films. Nada. If you're gonna say the 09 remake was worse or more ridiculous than New Blood, Jason Takes Manhattan, Jason Goes to Hell or the laughable Jason X, then you like every other fanboy is lying to yourself.

If we're gonna talk about horror remakes ruining a franchise with SERIOUS story telling and a killer than lets talk about the Rob Zombie remakes of Halloween. Especially Halloween 2. Now that's a true remake butchering a original film franchise. The 09 remake of Friday The 13th did no such thing. It did not even positively or negatively add to the franchise at all.
