Props to my man @3Rivers. I'm getting my education on: "Stables are more like loose affiliations rather than tight-knit groups like the Shield, for example. Stablemates will rarely accompany each other to the ring, or intervene in matches. They will, however, avoid wrestling each other, or challenge for each other's titles."

That's incredibly helpful, and it makes sense.

Here's an article from October called the Beginner's Guide to New Japan Pro Wrestling

Okay, I read the article and I'm incredibly intrigued. Props to all o' ya'll who have been up on NJPW.

I understand that the IWGP World Belt & IC Belt are regarded as being of equal value. What I woudl like to know is why New Japan decided to create a competing world title.

Also, why hasn't the IC belt diluted the World belt?

Simply put, NJPW has a way of keeping most of their stars relevant so guys in the mid card can challenge for the belt and look damn good doing it. For every Okada and Tanahashi you get a couple of Gotos, Naitos, and Ishiis. Their star power looks good because they make everyone look good and that keeps things fresh. So when someone challenges for any belt, it feels like an event is happening and not a throwaway.

Hope that kinda clears that up, im half sleep.

It's also a good thing to have a strong belt when the IWGP title isn't defended so often. They can also split the big shows, when the IWGP title is defended, and have a big match to headline each, this means that matches will all get a proper amount of time. Like if the IC and IWGP title were on the same show, you'd have to cut down on undercard matches and the crowd may get burned out. Now they have two big shows few days apart with two very strong main events with high stakes. I was skeptical at first but it's turned into a really good deal.

Here are sites for current Puro Results

http://www.purolove.com/ This has results for Japanese promotions
http://www.cagematch.net/ This has results for Japan and every promotion around the world, it also has great wrestler & promotion profiles with statistics

Strong Style Spirit used to be a great place with current New Japan results but the creator recently stopped updating. The forums are good for discussion but is pretty dead

Daily Sports in Japan today reported that Genichiro Tenryu, 65, will retire later this year.

Tenryu had major back surgery and had not been the same since returning. A former star in sumo, Tenryu was pushed from the start in All Japan, after working in several U.S. territories for Roy Shire and Jim Crockett in the 70s.

By the mid-80s, Tenryu was one of the top stars in the world. His singles feud with Jumbo Tsuruta in the late 80s was one of the top in-ring rivalries of the past 30 years. He headlined stadium shows with the likes of Nobuhiko Takada, Antonio Inoki, Riki Choshu and Hulk Hogan.

Easily in my top ten of all time :to: May throw up some of his most memorable matches later.

The OG Mr Puroresu. Seeing him at Wrestlemania 7 then seeing him in the Virtual Pro Wrestling 64 game got me into AJPW. Sad to see his career wind down :sadcam:

Tenryu badly broken down and old, Kobashi barely being able to walk, Misawa and Hash gone, hard to finish out that puro life healthy and on your own terms :to:

At least Akiyama is still kicking around and Kawada is still out there selling noodles :win:
