Show was good but man the atmosphere was rough with a near empty Tokyo Dome.

Shingo on a hell of a run. EVIL though :unimpressed: Think I'll skip that one. Not even Shingo is making a 30+ minute match with constant ref bumps and interverence watchable.

Meltzer says Chace Owens is in it this year

That evil/ishii match on Saturday was tough tho.

But yea, I've grown tired of every match being a marathon. Glad to see I'm not the only one.

I heavily disagree but I see were you are coming from. My (and others) issue with them is that we feel the exact opposite as you. Those matches don't fly by, they feel like a chore to watch for half or even 3/4 of their duration. Most of the action before the final sequence (that are always at the very least, really fun to watch) doesn't grab me nor do I find whatever they do compelling to watch. Mostly because I know it will have very little meaning by the end of the match but even if that wasn't the case, they don't do stuff that interest me that much. There are exceptions, of course, but the amount of matches I didn't think could've been 10 to 20 minutes shorter I can count on 1 hand in the last 4 or 5 years.

When a big match lasts 20 to 25 minutes (or less), is harder to find those stretches and even if they are there, they are much shorter so I'm less bothered by them and in a great match I don't even care because it's such a blimp in the overall match.

But I can see why if you love everything (or mostly everything) they do in a ring, you'd welcome matches going as long as they can and feel like big epics every time. I'm curious, since when have you been watching New Japan and which would you rank n°1 to n°3 in terms of main events: Okada's run (2013-2018), Naito/Ibushi/more (2018-today) and Tanahashi's run (2007-2013)

I started watching NJPW in like May of 2018 after listening to JR's podcast he kept talking about NJPW on AXS TV. I was interested in NJPW because of the Okada-Kenny 6 or 7 star match at WK and especially after I heard Jericho was going there at the top of 2018. So I looked to see if I had AXS TV on my cable plan and I did so I started watching and was absolutely blown away.

They would usually be on a couple weeks delay of the major shows and would usually show the last two matches of those shows. Once AXS stop showing NJPW on their channel I kept up with the progress of everything on cagematch but once Okada and Ibushi was set for WK 2020 I got the PPV on Fite TV because I wanted to see Ibushi's hopeful coronation.

It didn't happen but I still liked what I saw and I wanted to get NJPW World at the start of the NJ Cup 2020 because I prefer the 1on1 matches instead of all the tour tag matches but COVID hit and NJPW cancelled the NJ Cup. Eventually starting at WK 2021 I got NJPW World.

But to answer you last question I caught the end of Okada's legendary title run in 2018. I saw him retain vs Tanahashi at Dontaku 2018 but lose it to Omega at Dominion in that epic hour long+ match. I know things have been fukked up because of COVID but in 2019 I saw Ospreay's awesome run and the great A block of the 2019 G1 Climax just from AXS TV.

But to see those long 1on1 matches are rewards imo from having to watch all the tag matches which is why I don't mind if they go 30-45 minutes.

Fuminori Abe vs Masato Tanaka - Zero One Fire Festival 7/2/21

Abe continues on his quest of being brain dead before he reaches 30 :picard: a strike fest between this two, with some nice counters and some drama sprikled in thanks to Abe being an awesome little shyt. Definitely worth a watch but right now it's only available on Zero One's niconico channel and you gotta subscribe to that (first month is free). My guess is that either RealHero or Robert will uplodad it eventually because it's one of those matches you wanna see. The ending is fukking brutal :wow: :damn:

If anyone wants to watch it anyways, the whole show is here

The Cyberfight Festival was dope but holy "tagteam playa" at the overkill amount of tag matches throughout the event :shaq2:

Miyu/Yuka was probably MOTN for me. Yuka getting tired of the shyt with Miyu winz:whoa:. Beyond that, it was what it was. Cyberfight trying to comes for NJPW's lunch but fail to finish their own breakfast:francis:

never saw that match or know who that is but I'll have to look it up.

shyt is legendary.

It's not so much a match as it is a damn movie, which had real life consequences.:wow:

The match happened four years ago, but the story is still going on, as recently as last weekend.

Breh you remember the beginning credits to the movie Raging Bull? That's how that match was. So good it needed to be in black and white.
