The Traps of Unified Korea
To me Akiyama is unquestionable one of the greatest wrestlers of all time. He falls into the lost generation with the NJPW guys Tenzan/Kojima/Nagata of guys who came up in the shadow of the 90s greats and never got their just due of being put over etc etc

But Akiyama is one of those rare phenoms like Brock and Angle who pretty much from the second he starts making tape is good, then shortly becomes great. The difference is he's now continually been great for 22 years and is still right now, in 2015, arguably the best wrestler on the planet and somehow, some fukking way, doesn't actually seem like he'll fall off any time soon. The man is fukking extraordinary and right now, absolutely one of a kind. He got a genuinely great match out of Mutoh in 2013 :mindblown: four years after the best a prime Tanahashi could get out of him was an absolute debacle. Akiyama is a hero.

Yeah Akiyama always had great chemistry with Nagata and always felt he fit better New Japan especially after G1 2003

And how do you get this NJPW streaming deal if you live in the US?

NJPW World has a google translate option now so it should be easy enough to sign up but here's a full guide if you have any trouble;

Meltzer on how it's doing:
Whatever the psychological reasons are, while Japanese fans picked up on the idea of iPPV bigger than anyone at a $20 to $35 per event price tag, the idea of the streaming monthly service isn’t clicking well at all. On 1/21, New Japan World hit the 20,000 barrier. The hope was they would get to 40,000 subscribers the day of the Tokyo Dome show and obviously that didn’t even come close. Without another show even remotely close to the Tokyo Dome as far as being driver any time soon, it’s hard to imagine any growth spurts. Perhaps G-1 in July/August, but the mentality in wrestling of getting people to buy a singular big hyped show has always been far stronger than a series of excellent wrestling matches.

Interesting. FWIW I better they could get a good amount of subscribers here in the US between WK9 and the AXS show. If they actually had an English version of the site (although this Google Translate isn't bad) then I think it could do okay. I might be crazy tho

Yeah the translate isn't ideal at all but just good enough to make your way around. Hope the TV show leads to a bit more interest too, with the subbed promos, giving the backstory of everyone etc it could grab some people.

It doesn't have a really tough target to hit either, I think the G1 could get more of a surge than Dave let's on too, I mean nearly every hardcore fan would have to sub for the quantity of great matches the tournament produces, and it usually has some interest with casual followers. Might just be me being too optimistic though.

They reeeeeally need a proper English translation for that site if they want to get more international subscribers. Hell, they should have done that since day one.

And not something like their official foreign language Facebooks. The English page is kinda OK, but the Spanish one is straight comedy. They blatantly post a Bing translation from their Japanese page, and if you are a new fan who doesn't have any context, you probably will read those posts with a :dahell: face. It baffles me that they have a working agreement with CMLL and they can't ask a Mexican dude to mod the page.
