But how many actual flips was in the Ospreay-Takagi match? A couple inverted frankenstein attempts but I can't remember too much flippy shyt. I think some people still think this is the Ospreay from 2016-2017, but he is on some other shyt now. He's dishing out strong strikes and power moves now.

:stopitslime: Come on, there was multiple pele kicks, springboard cutters, two 450’s and a bunch of other high flying stuff. I’m not trying to nitpick the match, it was entertaining not worth “6 stars” but it was fun to watch. I’m just saying Meltz only likes the Indy style of wrestling and for someone that has been around the business since the 80’s you would think he wouldn’t be so biased to one style or the other. It’s like all new Japan matches starts off with 3 stars before the first lockup happens

I just started watching NJPW in 2018 and before I thought japanese wrestling was overrated. I had never really seen it but I didn't get what all the hoopla was about, with them being all over the pwi top 500 or getting such highly rated matches. That was until I saw it with my own eyes :whoo: First match I saw was Ospreay and KUSHIDA followed by Tanahashi & Okada. Needless to say I understood what it was about.

I'm rambling but the point I'm trying to make is that when you reach a certain age (I won't say mine) the over the top storytelling in places like WWE is just cringe worthy stuff. I'm sure Meltzer just like myself just wants to see an athletic, hard hitting match with drama and high stakes. That's what NJPW provides and since I started subscribing to njpw world in March I must say I am well satisfied with what I've seen.

Yeah if you are a fan of combat sports njpw is an easier sell than wwe or even aew.

Nj matches usually start out w a scramble or takedown into ia person taking control, then they start getting into strike strike enchanges and shyt starts getting lit :noah: counters of counters. :noah: or if its a tana/okada or omega-okada/ishii/Ibushi you know you about to get counters³. New viewers see a dope w lots of counters but the long term guys seeing counters from previous matches x10 :damn:

Im havent caught up past Ibushi losing :pacspit: but ima get back into it this week. :obama:

My (and others) point is that Dave has always liked more athletic and "big moves" matches. In the 80's he gravitated to those as well. All Japan was so heavily praised in the 90's because of that (even though a lot of those matches have a heavy dose of storytelling, the main focus was big moves, strikes and nearfalls). Same reason why he praised more the New Japan Jrs in the 90's instead of the heavyweights, even though the heavys were having classics during that time too.

I repeat, there's nothing wrong with that and I honestly don't give a single fukk about what Meltzer likes. I'm just pointing out that it's not a thing about getting to a certain age or changing what you like. In the case of Dave is the opposite, he's always liked the same type of stuff :yeshrug:

I'm legit worried about Kobashi throwing a chop and then standing there waiting for that bird to throw a strike of it's own :picard:

I’m watching this shingo and will match and I’m like 30 minutes in and it feels like most of the match was just moves for the sake of doing moves :unimpressed:

not every match has to be like 40-50 mins to be good :manny:

it’s finally picking up and somehow Will kicked out after taking a made in Japan on the table and then in the ring :what:

Caught up on NJ stuff

Shingo vs Okada >>>>>>>> all the Ospreay matches through out the cup and the Ibushi match. Like significantly better, although there was some real cool stuff in Ospreay/Shingo in the Cup and Ospreay/Ibushi. Feels like Ospreay should just be using the heavy death strikes pretty much exclusively now, though.

:yeshrug:thought Shingo/Okada was much better. Ospreay still hasn't fully formed his heavyweight style, let alone his 45 minute NJ main event heavy weight style. The Okada match benefited from not having to have that extra 15 minutes of time to fill, which usually in NJ means absolute fluff even with people fully immersed in the main event scene.

Shingo-Okada from the NJCup? Naw it wasn't even the best match of the tourney. Ospreay-ZSJ, Jay White-Henare, SANADA-Ishii are some that come to mind that were better. Even Naito-O'Khan and of course the Final of Shingo-Ospreay.

Low key Okada has been in the doldrums since the pandemic started in 2020 and I was looking forward to him and Ospreay in the Tokyo Dome main event to see if Okada would be awaken by this new version of Ospreay to pump out one of those all time classics. Hopefully we still get the chance to see the showdown.

Isn't Okada lowkey injured which is why he hasn't gone hard in the paint during this COVID Era?
