Bruh, it's 2013. No one in the world is drawing like they used to back in day, but business IS back up for NJPW after falling hard in the mid-00's, they're drawing well, and yeah, the match quality is better up and down the ranks than it ever has been in the company.

im just saying, i remember not that long ago hearing that njpws top guys were a-train and machine gun and tanahashi and i was like what the fukk?

Bernard and Machine Gun were/are dope. When he gave a fukk (big matches only), Bernard was amazing. WWE offered him a fortune to come back for a reason. Bad Intentions had a great run as the best tag team in the company. And then after Bernard left, Machine Gun surprised a ton of people by having a great 2012 solo, capped off by his IWGP title match against Tanahashi.

And you must be really out of the loop if Tana being a top guy is surprising to you. Starting in 2009, but really after he came back from his eye injury and into 2010, he's been the most consistently good to great worker on the planet. Add in Okada who has gone from nothing to one of the best doing it period, MiSu, Naka, Machine Gun, Naito, Shibata, Ishii, Nagata, Makabe, Goto, Tanaka, Kojima, Devitt who worked with the heavyweights this year and even fringe players like Shelton, Davey Jr any given NJPW card has the potential to be nuts.

Okada/Naito was a difficult situation, but they really only have themselves to blame. Naito has been really rushed into this spot and hasn't shown much since he's returned. But that's down to how they've booked him mostly. They could've went ahead with main eventing but a dead crowd can kill Dome matches, more than any other arena, so I understand the poll. That being said it's strange that the second title will headline and Tana/Nak have been entering pretty mediocre perfromances of late, both, especially Tana, are clearly not near 100%.

NJPW in general isn't doing a lot for me right now, an awful lot of reruns and unintersting stuff, Suzuki back with Yano again, Shibata/Goto for the fourth time, tag teams in general etc etc.

This is the full Dome card
IWGP Intercontinental Title: Shinsuke Nakamura (c) vs Hiroshi Tanahashi
IWGP Heavyweight Title: Kazuchika Okada (c) vs Tetsuya Naito
Hirooki Goto vs Katsuyori Shibata
IWGP Heavyweight Tag Titles: K.E.S. (c) vs Karl Anderson & Doc Gallows
Yuji Nagata & Kazushi Sakuraba vs Daniel & Rolles Gracie
KO or Submission Only: Togi Makabe vs Bad Luck Fale
IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title: Prince Devitt (c) vs Kota Ibushi
Minoru Suzuki & Shelton Benjamin vs Toru Yano & 'X'
NWA World Heavyweight Title: Rob Conway (c), w/ Harley Race, vs Satoshi Kojima
IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Titles: The Young Bucks (c) vs Forever Hooligans vs Time Splitters vs TAKA Michinoku & Taichi

Naito & Tanahashi vs Okada & Nakamura:

I liked this match, but I see it getting near-perfect ratings and just didn't think it was that exciting. I watched it before reading any of the hype too.

Still expecting a pair of classics next week at the Dome though.

It's funny to me how overhyped Meltzer gets with New Japan. A while ago he called Okada/Tanahashi the GOAT in ring feud or something along those lines

Still, at least he is giving fans a reason to watch so I can't be mad at him for all his overreactions.

Don't do that to yourself breh. You already know that even though there might be some matches that have ton of potential, Dome shows rarely have any classics :ld:

Nah, as far as I remember, he said they were the best thing going in the world right now, which I can't argue. Second would be Cena/Punk, and Okada/Tana is better than that just off the strength of clean finishes.

Nah breh, I clearly remember him saying they were better than Flair/Steamboat and Misawa/Kobashi on one of his podcast. Which is insane considering how young that rivalry is.

I just can't recall if he said Tana/Okada were the GOAT pairing.

Classics may not have been the right word to use, but I'll be satisfied if I enjoy them as much as say, the Nak/Saku match from this years show.

10. Double Main Event II – IWGP Intercontinental Title: Hiroshi Tanahashi beat Shinsuke Nakamura (c) (23:24) with the High Fly Flow to become the 7th champion.

Notes:

-The Gracie invasion sucked, allegedly. What did they expect?
-Goto helped Shibata to the back after their match, which may or may not mean something (no pseudo-Meltzer).
-Well...now that Naito's been beaten (probably for the best, given how this push has worked out), what's next for him and Okada? Does Okada even really have challengers left at this point? Is he going after Tanahashi's defense record?

The attendance was apparently 35,000 legit, 6,000 more than last year's Dome Show. Also, New Japan's planning to hold the 2014 G1 Final in the Seibu Dome, which holds 30,000. Looks like New Japan's scaling up in a serious way this year.

Gonna wait and try to watch WK spoiler free, it better hit them torrents quick though :henry:

G-1 Final should always be in Sumo Hall, the atmosphere is something else. But hey, they are on a good run, can't fault them fro trying to be seen as bigger. They better not go full retard with it though, we all know how that story ends.

Watched the show live, decided to go to bed after Shinsuke's entrance. Obvious result was obvious but his entrance deserved awards :wow:

The opening tag was fun. I'd love to see that same set get another 5-10 minutes to really blow it out later in the year.
KES/Bullet Club started sloppy but ended decent.
Conway/Kojima kept it tight. Solid match.
Yano/Muta v Suzuki-Gun was fun for what it was with one guy who can barely move and another who is all character. Yano and Suzuki's interactions were hilarious.
Laughter 7 v Gracie's was HORRIBLE.
Makabe/Fale was much better than it had any business being.
Goto/Shibata was fantastic. It pretty much follows the Goto/Shibata formula which became the Shibata/Ishii formula, but they threw in a couple of extra added new folds. Crowd really came alive for this.
Devitt/Ibushi isn't the best match they've had, as Devitt is fully in heel/Bullet Club mode. These two can't do anything bad though, and it doesn't go on too long. This also feels like it's left room for a bigger rematch.

Okada/Naito FANTASTIC. Someone pointed out on another forum that Naito just really isn't a guy who can capture you from jump. He just comes off as a generic face until he really starts going. This match played off an all the real life shyt going into this match with Naito just not looking ready. Okada comes out, completely takes over the match, starts swagging on him HARD...until Naito starts to lose it at the disrespect and just snaps. From there we get an aggressive Okada we never see against a completely fired up, not giving a fukk Naito, and they kill it. Same feelings I had after their match in 2012. These two will be rivals for the rest of their careers, and every time they meet up will be special.
