why does WWE mention the IWGP title all the time if they know NJPW is the 2nd biggest company?

Was going through some old post and I'm :wow: at how little faith people had in Naito after his failed mega push. I think the only thing I've ever being 100% right about in wrestling was him and the heel turn he needed.

But most importantly, motherfukking :wow: :wow: at how much this thread has grown. November 2013 was page 18, January 2015 was page 36 and May 2017 is page 159

We've come a long way puro brehs :salute: :purogang:

This post just made me think of something...

I got hooked on NJPW (and my entire wrestling passion was reignited) when flipping through channels and stumbling on Ricochet vs. Kushida on AXS.

Similarly, I got hooked on Lucha Underground when flipping through channels and stumbling on a guy in an orange mask whose body looked just like Ricochet's....

....and fast forward to today and I dont even like Ricochet like that. But he hooked me on the only 2 wrestling things I have truly enjoyed since 2001

Just watched Dontaku. Does Okada ever not get his shyt in? Dude gets his back worked over the whole match, yet goes out of his way to do needlessly showy strength spots that would make Fale look bad even if there hadn't been a ton of back work. Like the over the shoulder neckbreaker, or the tombstone, or just a normal body slam. Fale's aura as someone to be taken seriously at least based on his size is hurt when lanky ass Okada is throwing him around with a bad back. None of the work went anywhere, just like none of the leg work in the Suzuki match went anywhere because it didn't prevent Okada from hitting all of his spots anyway.

If you're not going to make any of the work in the match matter and carry weight, why even bother? Just trade your set of moves back and forth and have a finish.

I'm having a really hard time watching shyt right now because the rigid structure of signatures and finishers is in every promotion in every style in the world and I'm just sick of it. Wrestling is supposed to be a creative genre of physical storytelling, yet everyone has boxed themselves into having to do a set amount of specific moves and when in every match even if it goes against the story the rest of the match is telling.

I'm not asking for shoot style matches that can end at any time with any move, but I think it is reasonable to expect if the story is a guy getting his leg worked for a half hour by a leg lock specialist that he not be doing dropkicks/missile dropkicks/flying elbow drops afterwards. Or if a guy goes into a match with a bad leg and gets the leg worked on for a half hour to the point of not being able to walk, not to follow that up with a phoenix splash and dives. Or if you're getting your back worked on for 15 minutes by a guy billed at 344 pounds, don't shrug it off and start slamming and suplexing him. If you're going to sell something, fukking sell it. If you can't hit your finish because of an injury in the match, don't go ahead and hit it after all a few minutes later. There are at least 1004 documented wrestling moves. You don't have to hit your signature and finisher every match if it doesn't work with the story.

All I'm asking for is some consistency and logic. If a fighter hurts his leg in a fight, he doesn't keep throwing head kicks and going for triangles. If a basketball player tweaks his ankle, he doesn't go out of his way to throw down monster jams and do fancy footwork to show off. If you fukk your back or knee while doing squats, you don't slap your a few times and go do another few sets. I don't need super realism that looks like a real fight or anything, I just want shyt to make logical sense, as much as it can for such a silly form of entertainment. If you're just selling to buy time for when you can hit your signature/finisher, don't bother. Just embrace being a spot monkey type like the Young Bucks, Dragon Lee, Takahashi, etc.

If you read this thread you'd know what I've been watching and I posted my thoughts on Bate/Dunne in that particular thread...

In more important news, I'm not sure how old these pics are but still....:lupe:

Perhaps, it isn't something I've seen a ton of but have enjoyed the few times I have.

Suzuki's run this year is exactly what you asking for in matches. Specially his match against Okabayashi.
