I wish I could be interested in NJ in 2016, but it just seems like 2012 NJ with shytty ROH guys and Kenny Omega added. And I don't enjoy Omega (he's Ziggler-tier trash to me no matter what he does). :wow:

Show did the best number for the big October show since 2004.

Yup. New Japan's brand is bigger than in a long ass time, the G-1 pretty much confirmed it. Gedo's lazy ass booking has made me not care about the product at all, I barely watch matches and just follow results, but it's pretty clear there's a disconnect between the japanese audience and fans like me and @stro, they love them some New Japan right now. It would be really cool if they get legit 35,000 paying fans for Wrestle Kingdom.

I sincerely hope this isn't a NOAH in 2004-2005 thing though, were the flaws on the booking were glaring as fukk and the company paid for them later. I just hope shyt gets more interesting and diverse.

It is curious though that this decent spike happened after the exodus of Nakamura, Ibushi and AJ :mmmmm:

ps: Can't wait for people like VOW to start losing their shyt over this kind of thing as start calling this a new boom and exaggerating how important this numbers are :francis:

Thing is, I don't feel like it's a spike, as much as its just the evolution of what's been happening. Only period numbers went down is autumn last year on account of the crazy staleness, but trying to look at it as a wrestling fan in Japan, this year you got finally the torch passing to Okada, a Shibata singles title reign, an invader in the G1 beating top guys, the arrival of Naito as a champion and LIG as the hother new deal, Omega (who was a big deal in DDT) finally done fukking around with juniors and mixing it up with the big names and being taken seriously to the point of being the first gaiJin winner of the G1 which is a huge moment.

There's a lot of stuff happening in NJPW right now which could be drawing people in.

I mean shyt, Yoshi-Hashi caught a main event program this year.

One thing I try to remind myself every once in a while, is regardless how much I follow Puro, generally it's just a project where I pick and choose what to watch based on my niche interests. It isn't, never will, and importantly, never can be my primary source of wrestling entertainment and isn't meant for my mass consumption, so my feelings and thoughts about it will regularly be far away from the opinions of the people who it is the intended primary product for.

Tbh, the loss of Nak and AJ isn't as big of an issue to me not giving a shyt about NJ as the elevation of Omega and Elgin in their wake is. I have ZERO interest in watching either of those dudes, let alone watching them near the top of the cards. I also have zero issues of watching shytheads like Kyle O'Riely and Jay Lethal. I also am completely over the standard matches that Shibata and Ishii have, regardless of opponent.

But really, the staleness of their cards are why it has been hard for me to give a shyt about NJ despite having some of my favorite guys to watch and some amazing matches. shyt has felt like the same show since 2012ish, now with scrub ass ROH dudes. Gedo pls

That's debatable. Last year was kind of shaky for New Japan, not only autumn was down, it carried to WK being letdown and a clear sign they fukked up delaying Okada's ultimate win over Tana.

What's interesting to me is that the people that are headlining now and having success are the same people we've seen before and that they showed no sign of moving numbers. Like, Marufuji has never been a big deal even though he's had a lot of monster pushes, and now he gets a similar role Go Shiozaki got in 2009-2010 and MiSu in 2012-2013 and the crowd is responding.

One thing I try to remind myself every once in a while, is regardless how much I follow Puro, generally it's just a project where I pick and choose what to watch based on my niche interests. I mean, there's no clearer example than Dragon Gate. That company has been the most consistent promotion in Japan in the last decade and I was burned out by it (style and booking) in 2009 :pachaha:

I just hope I don't end up feeling the same about New Japan :mjcry:

Okada vs Marufuji was excellent :wow: That young promise Marufuji couldn't deal with the Rainmaker :wow: Even humilliated him with the Emerald Flowsion. Just kill NOAH.

Okada/Marafuji, Omega/Goto, Shibata/KOR were all :ohlawd:

I also look forward to Nagata and Nakajima beating the hell out of one another:ehh:
Did you watch the full show or just those matches?

I'm thinking of checking out the PPV in English commentary.
