While we've all be preparing for WrestleMania/TSCMania, in Japanese news...

NJPW Invasion Attack Results:

1. IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Title: KUSHIDA & Alex Shelley (c) beat Prince Devitt & Ryusuke Taguchi (10:42) when KUSHIDA used a Japanese leg roll clutch hold on Taguchi (3rd defense).
2. Special 8 Man Tag Match: Hiroyoshi Tenzan, Manabu Nakanishi, Super Strong Machine & Akebono beat Takashi Iizuka, Tomohiro Ishii, YOSHI-HASHI & Bob Sapp (10:00) when Nakanishi used the Uekara Don on YOSHI-HASHI.
3. CMLL World Tag Team Title: El Terrible & Tama Tonga (c) beat La Mascara & Valiente (8:57) when Terrible used the a powerbomb on Valiente.
4. Special Tag Match: Masato Tanaka ZERO1 & Yujiro Takahashi beat Togi Makabe & Tomoaki Honma (10:41) when Tanaka used the Sliding D on Honma.
5. Special Singles Match: Minoru Suzuki beat Toru Yano (10:09) with a Gotch-style piledriver.
6. Special Tag Match: Yuji Nagata & Hirooki Goto beat Kazushi Sakuraba & Katsuyori Shibata (11:32) by referee stop (Nagata beat Sakuraba).
7. Triple Main Event I – NWA World Heavyweight Title: Ron Conway NWA (c) beat Satoshi Kojima (14:24) with the Ego Trip.
8. Triple Main Event II – IWGP Intercontinental Title: Shinsuke Nakamura (c) beat Davey Boy Smith Jr. (18:04) with the Boma Ye (7th defense).
9. Triple Main Event III – IWGP Heavyweight Title: Kazuchika Okada beat Hiroshi Tanahashi (c) (31:41) with the Rainmaker to become the 59th champion.

Important Notes:

-Prince Devitt turned heel after the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Title Match, attacking Taguchi and partnering up with King Fale. He's still the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Champ, so we'll see where this goes. As long as that road doesn't lead to Taguchi becoming champ, that is...

-On the Laughter7/Nagata and Goto match: There was a premature stoppage in that match due to a sloppy suplex that resulted in Sakuraba dislocating his elbow. He popped it in a couple of minutes after the stoppage, but the ref immediately stopped the match when he saw it. So that loss wasn't supposed to happen...We'll see how this story line continues.

-Conway sucked. That's all you need to know about the NWA Title match.

-The top two matches, ESPECIALLY the IWGP Heavyweight Title match, were said to be impressive. From the description I read, the main event should be watched immediately as soon as it hits the net.

-The CHAOS/Suzuki Gun feud seems to be kicking into high gear, as Gedo challenged Minoru Suzuki immediately after Okada won, and it seems that Okada and Suzuki will headline the next big NJPW show.

Main event is one of the best matches of all times apparently :ld: I'll probably only check the Nakamura, Shibata and Minoru matches from this card. Still perplexed at Conway being third from the top here.

I thought Okada/Tana was the best match New Japan has put on in over a year.

Hopefully Rainmaker works out as a draw in the top spot. I'd like to see him get at least a 6-7 month run with the belt, and then drop it to Naito (who's due back at the 6/22 PPV) later this year.

Better than Tanahashi/Suzuki?

I just watched it, and goddamn that was effortless. Amazing stuff, and I was surprised by just how behind Okada the crowd was. Outside of certain pockets (Osaka, for example), Tanahashi never really gets reactions like that in his matches.

It'll be interesting to see how Okada/Suzuki plays out.

Yeah, to me this one was closer to being a legit 5* classic than the Suzuki match.

Brehs, Okada is just :wow:

Whoever it was in NJPW who saw this when we came back from TNA deserves 50% of the money Okada brings into NJPW for the rest of his career. No one to #2 in the company within six months, outright company ace within another six.

He was bound to be a main star after his great work as a young lion in 09' breh. Regardless of how his trip to the US went, he was going to get a big push when he returned for good.

Now, I don't think anybody saw his huge push coming so fast but he was their most promising prospect in YEARS.

Speaking of Okada:

Kazuchika Okada has recently bought a new home, a new car, and furniture spending $100,000 in cash and is now broke and is selling his memorabilia including his Money in the Bank briefcase and his IWGP title ring.

From the most recent Wrestling Observer.

Apparently, not even the Japanese are immune to Naitching. :snoop:

Was Yoshi Tatsu a good wrestler in Asia? I'm trying to figure out why he'd subject himself to merciless jobbing like this in the WWE.

Watch this:

He was never treated as more than a low-midcarder or so, but he had serious potential. If he had gone on an excursion and come back with a good character, he could've really been something over there (especially considering that Goto was still a Junior Heavy at the time, and that Shibata was long gone by this point).
