Democrats are pushing for minimum wage of $15/hr. JPM pays $16.50/hr. Dems are saying that the minimum wage should be a living wage. But doesn't this example that Porter highlighted show that $15/hr isn't enough? The minimum wage can't be a living wage under the current economy, right?

It shows that a living wage isn't a set number in all places for all people.

Everyone who is in the corporate workforce knows that a Bachelors degree is the equivalent to a high school diploma and has been for years now. So that means that the gateway to middle-class is through a minimum of 4 years of college. Take a step back and understand why that is not sustainable from a circumstances perspective or from a number of available jobs perspective.

Has everyone forgotten all of the reports and conversations around college graduates having to fall back on low wage jobs just to survive because there aren't enough jobs to go around? So you have "skilled vs. un-skilled" workers vying for the same jobs that they can't support a standard lifestyle on. This is the reason why a lot of people are pushing their children towards a trade or traditional blue collar work, yet there are only so many jobs in that route as well.

Everyone can't make $60K+ a year and they shouldn't have to in order to have a roof over their head and be able to afford the normal trappings of life without incurring large amounts of debt.

Boo-f*cking-hoo. :russ:

We should tell JP Morgan to figure out how to make it work, like they say to their low wage workers. :bpumad:
The likes of JPM ain't doing a damn thing you "tell" them.

Also, whatever they're doing is working extremely well for them as a company.

Why are some of you so convinced that these fukks can be left to make the right decision? When has that ever been the case?

Y'all need to be calling for the heads of govt (at all levels) for selling the ppl out for decades. Stop falling for their bs theatre.

It really isn't though. (Why do you have me defending capitalists?)
Cape for capitalists then try to blame others for why you’re doing it, you neocons are something else. :snoop:

Isn’t JP Morgan a fukking bank? The LARGEST of the Big Four? Don’t they deal with money on a daily basis? Shouldn’t they know the spending power of what their entire business is built around? Shouldn’t they of all people be keenly aware at how meager their wages are?

I guess you can be a bank... That doesn’t have a fukking clue how money works in modern society... and it’s still the government’s fault.
Then that Jamie Dillon c*nt had the audacity to say he can see the US economic expansion continuing for years, translation: these suckers are gonna let me exploit them for another decade before they get hip to what the hell is going on and come for my head. :jawalrus:

“Hey GPBear. CEOs are gonna CEO. They shouldn’t be expected to be paying living wages; the government sets the minimum wage at X, then how is it the fault of the big banks that they completely undercut and exploit their workers labor? What do you expect, companies to actually be attuned to the plights of their workers and see if they’re even able to live on the wages they’re paying? Shut up and work the teller machine, Brenda, ain’t nobody care if you had enough to eat last night.

This guy is going “y’all need to go after the govt who has sold you out.” who did they sell us out to? The fukking banks. The lobbyists. The corporate CEOs. God damn put the :cape: away.

:snoop:

:laff::laff::laff:

What the fukk are you talking about?

The big banks just tanked the economy and you’re out here giving gold stars.
They’re exploiting their workers, and you’re giving them a high five.

Nothing of what they’re doing is working, and you’re an idiot.

Keep polishing those golden toliet seats for the CEOs for $12 an hour, hotel maids. You should have studied harder in school instead of being impoverished victims of rotting educational infrastructure
:hubie:This is too far removed from the thread topic... she was making above the proposed "living wage" and my comment(that you quoted) clearly calls for education reform.

I appreciate the emotion tho... :ehh:

JP Morgan shares surge after bank posts record profit and revenue

What they're doing is working... for THEM. How can you even debate that?

Why is it hard for you to understand that it's your sworn in elected officials that are allowing these record profits at the expense of workers? Where is the accountability there?

if she was making 16 dollars an hour at a small business, would this thread even exist? would her status as a single mother be relevant if she was bringing home the same exact paycheck from a grocery store?

and for the love of christ, why has NO ONE mentioned a specific solution in here :why:

Why do you keep talking about small businesses as if they hold most of the wealth in the United States?

:dwillhuh:

The government already does this with federal minimum wage, as companies have to make at least $500,000 in sales to be required to pay $7.25. States also have their own thresholds between smaller and larger companies for the minimum wage they have to pay.

i would love for the government to pass a threshold/minimum wage per company law. walmarts min wage should be 20; store down the street should just be the state laws minimum wage. maybe someday it will happen :yeshrug:
