I thought as much as it played so much like that scene in T1.

Yup. He and Leigh wanell wrote and created saw. Leigh made upgrade as a terminator robocop homage. Wan wears his influences on his sleeve.

I didn’t think this movie would take off like his others because it’s very specific in who its targeting and why it is the way it is. It’s a throwback to 80s and early 90s horror that didn’t get wide releases but made their name on vhs. Most of them being Italian horror movies.

There’s so much in this that feels like Phenomena or Tenebrae. Wan always knows what he’s doing.

yeah lol i can understand dudes who tapped out early, but once the movie showed its hand and you find out you aint tripping its hard to hate this film lol. Id say even if it wasnt for you i think the real discussion was if the movie was effective in paying tribute to what it was trying to do.
