I fukked with this. Nice departure from his older stuff. Definite homages/intentional campiness that worked pretty well. The action and gore in the last third of the movie was piff:wow:I'm still at the point where I want my horror to be higher brow ala The VVitch, The Lighthouse, Hereditary, etc, but more traditional horror works when there's a bit of uniqueness to the premise

This was really dope, although I can see why it’s divisive amongst the crowd. The trailer has you thinking it’s an entirely different tone. :pachaha:

The tone in the opening is jarring as hell but works out well given the reveal later on in the movie and man, that reveal…was crazy. Gabriel’s body movements are freaky as hell. :picard:

Wan needs to keep the streets fed with these new-lane horror stories. The first two Conjuring films were fun, but that franchise is being diluted with low quality sequels/spin-offs. And unlike Dead Silence, the campiness actually works in this film.

Yeah it takes a hard turn which people will either go along with or reject. It reminded me of old school horror flicks so I was ok with it.
Yeah that was a definite make or break moment in the last act. I sensed some walk-outs at that point, but I loved how it embraced its fukkery. Just more confirmation that the film didn’t take itself seriously.

Also, the giallo influences and camera-work in the first half was superb. Bishara’s score even paying homage as well.

The year 3030
this was just an updated version of

:lolbron:

i denno if i was supposed to be laughing at certain scenes (i think i was the only one laughing in my theater..)
like when the "twist" is finally revealed...the reveal was comical...but that prison fight was :gladbron:

or at the end when Gabe is pushed back in and Maddie's head unsplits...i chuckled pretty loudly

or when reginia exclaims imaginary friend then the music swells...:russ: at that

This movie was pure fukkery. I can see why it’s so divisive. You either get the tone or you don’t but what I respect about the film is they kept the tone consistent throughout

what I’m trying to figure out is

was he psychic? Did he have enhanced powers? How did he do the separate phone calls to the detectives while he was still attached to her body? It was that all in her head? There were some inconsistencies as far as how the whole thing worked
