If he had 3-4 years on his deal I’d agree, but 2 is risky to give up assets without him signing a long term deal. You’d essentially be giving up a young cornerstone player plus young players/assets for a two year rental. You’d get less for him next year then you would right now seeing as he’d be an expiring. A sign and trade wouldn’t also let you back less in return than what you gave up to get him.

A similar example of this is what Houston gave up to get Westbrook/what they got in return for trading him to Washington.

2 years is more than enough time plus he will be 33 then . No way at the age of his career he’d pass up the big offer the team can offer him.

do it Masai :noah:

A two year potential rental of Harden in exchange for giving up Ben Simmons for example? I’ll pass.

He should sign the two year extension that Houston offered, which help suitors feel more comfortable that he’d stay long term. Help Houston help you get to where you wanna go is how I see it.

2 years isn't enough. He gotta commit to 5 right now or no deal.

It comes down to what you value...time/possibilities or going for chips right now. Now if you don't think Harden is enough to put you over the top then there is no point in trading for him for any length of time. He ain't gonna be better in 5 years than he is right now. But you also have to question whether Simmons can be a top 2 on a chip team in the modern NBA.

Houston’s asking price is a young cornerstone player along with a bundle of young players with cheap contracts/picks. Even Brooklyn seems rather hesitant to gut their team of players/assets without any assurances that Harden will stay long term.

You also have to remember that even if Harden leaves, that doesn’t mean that they will have the cap space to go out and find a replacement. Especially if you’re already over/near the cap before you even make the trade. A sign and trade isn’t guaranteed to net you anything in return as a suitable replacement.

Wall will be on load management/minutes restriction this year. At least that was the plan in Washington.

Yeah that was the plan for the Wizards cause they were thinking about the playoffs. Even with load management I can still see him getting traded again to a contender whenever he’s eligible.
