What does Harden think is going to happen? Rockets lose if they don't get Simmons in a Harden trade, and also lose if they do get Simmons, because he's pointless if John Wall is actually remotely healthy, as he appears to be. Nets don't have shyt. If I'm the owner, I sit his ass out of spite and dock him money.

What did the Rockets do to make Harden want to leave? They got him Chris Paul and then Westbrook. We know how it turned out.

I don't see why that wouldn't at least make them a Finals team. We saw Lebron and AD just take the Lakers to the title and I don't think a Harden/Embiid pairing is that far away from them. You pair Joel and Harden with the shooting of Curry and Danny Green around them plus whatever Tobias can provide and I think that makes them a serious contender.

I think if you remove the human-element, James/Joel + that cast should be favorites to get out the East, edging out BK. With the human element, it's hard to trust James or Joel in playoff ball... hard to trust Doc as a coach... hard to trust Danny Green as your top 3&D specialist. Hell, even if they acquired Harden w/o losing Ben... hard to trust Ben. Could end up being the 2019 team with Butler, Ben, Joel, Tobias all over again.

With that said, as long as Joel and Harden are both down with it, i pull the trigger and ship Ben out. If Jokic, Harden, and Murray are all down with it, i pull the trigger and ship Maga Jr + whatever else. If Kawhi and Harden are down for it, I ship out PG13. James is top 5 and more durable than anyone listed with a play style that isn't reliant on athleticism. So yea i take the chance but i would've wanted to do it before training camp.

What could he have done to please Harden in Retrospect?

not buy the team :yeshrug:

While my personal opinion is that Morey was a "hit or miss" gm and D'Antoni is as useless as Doc Rivers... ultimately those two were Harden's biggest supporters and were instrumental to his greatest peaks as a basketball player.

And while Morey and D'Antoni both seemingly walked away on their own accord.. I kinda got the sense (outside looking in) that they were all but forced out by the owner, and that's what a lot of this fallout with James stems from. Especially since he's so adamant to either join D'Antoni in BK or Morey in Philly.

I figured that Harden was going to eventually up and I'm sure Houston called his bluff as well. He has two years left on his deal, so Houston can be patient while waiting for the best offer to materialize. It would be one thing if he was a free agent after the season where would have no other choice but to trade him right away to get the best value possible.

Not force Morey to trade Capela for $ considerations.
Not treat D'antoni disrespectfully to force him out the door
Not let Morey walk
Hire T Lue who Westbrook and Harden wanted instead of van Gundy
Not be buddy buddy with Trump

Quite a few things it seems. :ehh:

All of that could have been prevented if he would have never been allowed to buy the team in the first place. Dude never really had the break like that to do so and the owners should have foreseen that themselves. Even this billionaire big wig Microsoft dude has been trying to own a team for years, but the NBA owners won't let him in, yet you let this broke dude own one :mjlol:
