No it wasn't a flop. It's already done $120 million over it's budget worldwide. If you said they spent half the $200 million budget on advertising which I doubt then it was profitable and will remain so going forward.
They spent over $100 million advertising the movie and any $ you see half of it goes to theaters. Movie has to make like 600 million to break even.

Black Adam needed about 400m to break even when you add in reshoots and marketing
some people say 450m others say 500m. others also say 600m
but if you go with the film's budget being 200m and then marketing probably costing about the same you get to the 400m number
it looks like it will crawl to make that at the end of the day but this isn't the return they wanted.
compared to shazam who had a 100m budget and made 366m in the box office. it made a much better return which I bet is what zaslav is going to look at it when deciding on having Black Adam return in his own solo movie.
if you want to compare black widow which I don't know why you would since it came out during omicron then
black widow made 379m from box office and 125m from Disney plus premier access which brings it to a total of 500m+ not a flop even if you count the "500m loss from piracy" :mjlol:
Shang chi made 432 mil on a 150 mil budget. not a flop and did this with box office depression due to covid. hard to get the budget numbers on this but even if you make the budget 200mil it still made some profit.
eternals made 402 mil on a 200mil budget. so yeah Eternals barely made its profit and would be considered a flop.
black adam is tracking similarly to Eternals
if you consider Eternals a flop then you have to consider black adam a flop the numbers are the same.
if you want to fight go on r/boxoffice they've been watching this film like a hawk

That's cap.. a $200M movie does not need to make 3x the budget to break even. So.. @The_Sheff just so we're clear... if that's a flop then Eternals/Black Widow/Shang-Chi were all flops as well..

2x the budget. So if it gets to 400 million it’s breaking even, and it will barely reach that number if it does.

I already agreed with you that those movies underperformed traditionally. But again, WB did not sign The Rock so the box office comparison could be made to Shang Chi, which stars someone 99% of people can’t name.

Not to mention those movies dropped while folks were still scared of Covid. :mjlol: Hell one of them had a D+ release!

Damn. DC and Marvel are switching places.

Last few DC joints been solid to great.

Last few Marvel joints been mid to brown frown.

Whereas DC seems to be consolidating, Marvel is spreading out to the point where the "shared universe" is feeling compartmentalized.

Agreed, but Wakanda Forever should get a billion easy.

Now reading shyt that BOTH Black Adam and Wakanda Forever are not getting China releases.

whats the story behind no China release? lol

probably bullshyt but allegedly Pierce Brosnan is a supporter of Tibet and the Dalai Lama and China don't fukk with that. So MCU stans told the Chinese agency over movie distribution this to get the distribution blocked in China. :mjlol:

The Rock is the only reason people would have ever heard of Black Adam. It ain't some well known character.

I see yall tryna make excuses for Eternals and Shang-Chi but we aren't going to do that because covid did not have theaters locked down for those movies especially Eternals which just came out this past Winter. Eternals was a $200M budget.

@humminbird the budget on Shang Chi is posted on several sites estimated to be $150M-$200M believe it or not..

I see Black Adam getting a sequel of some kind probably with Shazam.

I had Shazam in my initial post on recent origins movies and box office numbers but I don't think anyone could say that flopped at all, that was at most a $100M budget and made over 3x that budget at theaters alone.

theaters weren’t locked down but there was Covid depression for Shang chi
Many people still weren’t going to theaters during Shang Chi's release
I gave you Eternals as a win
that movie did not perform well there’s no way around that one
I personally wouldn't put any 2021 movie box office against a 2022 movie box office even spider-man. I still believe spider-man would've made 2 billion if released now
Shazam didn’t flop it is a massive success I’m just saying they have to be using it for comps because the rock kept stopping them from putting black adam in the movie
I overpredicted on black adam my bet was 700m based off hobbs and shaw numbers :manny:
