I think the reason that Disney is reconsidering the move at all is because the offending tweets were "exposed" in bad faith. Meaning that the alt right shythead wasn't so much concerned about the potential paedophile activities of Gunn but was more so trying to prove a point in an internet argument. Also, Gunn got a slap on the wrist for these same Tweets several years back. So combined it looks like Disney doesn't really care about the implications of the tweets, just the backlash. All on the word of an alt right shyttle who doesn't care about the implications, just wanted a scalp in the ongoing culture war. None of the parties seem actually concerned with the pedo implications. Also I don't think they expected the cast to stick up for Gunn the way they have so they feel forced to at least revisit the situation. Doesn't mean he'll be rehired though.
That's incorrect. It was blog with some gay and sexist jokes. The tweets weren't know until this incident

'Avengers,' 'Black Panther' cast members unfollow director James Gunn on Twitter

Although director James Gunn has gotten the support of his "Guardians of the Galaxy" cast after getting fired from the series' third instalment, others in the Marvel Cinematic Universe would rather keep their distance from him.

"Avengers" stars Chris Evans, Tom Hiddleston, Chris Hemsworth, Robert Downey Jr. and Don Cheadle removed the director from their "following" list on Twitter. Based on the website doesfollow.com, Evans was one of the first to unfollow Gunn on July 23, days after Disney announced he was fired over offensive tweets written from 2008 to 2011.

By coincidence or not, some of the major stars of the "Black Panther" cast unfollowed Gunn yesterday, July 31. Among them were Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong'o, Danai Gurira and Letitia Wright. Andy Serkis unfollowed Gunn's Twitter today, Aug. 1.

Evangeline Lilly from "Ant-Man and the Wasp" unfollowed him yesterday as well.

Sounds like Civil War II is on the horizon

Avengers vs Guardians :banderas:

Normal people dont make those kind of jokes bruh.

Quite fitting then, since he's not a "normal" person. Neither are comedians who make rape/gay jokes. While Gunn isn't a comedian, he clearly knows whats funny, and how to direct a movie. The real problem being; people getting fired for messages on their social media pages. My work and time off it, are mutually exclusive. Plus if we all had be vetted for racist/bigoted things said in our lives (even once), we'd all be out of jobs. Its silly. And while I understand Hollywood is about an "image", these were lame jokes, he wasn't accused of rape or being a pedophile. That's like saying all comedians who make jokes about rape, are rapists.

Is your name tied directly to your work like with James Gunn?

Two differences from what Gunn tweeted and comedians with edgy material.
1) they are comedians so off top you know how to take them and what to expect.
2) they have set-ups and punchlines

Except that Social media isn't "work" its a public forum where you can post innocuous musings. Even twitter itself, had ad campaigns that made fun of themselves for this aspect alone.

1. He's known to be heavily outspoken...as he mentioned, these were posted years ago, and Disney/Marvel had no problem with it. This is a guy who directed, produced and wrote, "James Gunn's PG Porn" and "Super". Both very dark humor. Disney knew who they were getting in bed with. He even quoted The Dirty Dozen as the pitch for Guardians. Marvel accepted. They all knew that he was a loose canon.

2. Its twitter, less characters, more succinct. Even comedians don't use setups/punchlines standards. You're moving the goal post.

Ultimately, this is only a big deal because of the whole Metoo movement. So Disney wants to look like the "good guy". Demonizing a guy who they agreed with 100% just makes them look like a hypocritical bandwagoning SJW's.

:russ: pretty much. They were about to let majority of the og cast go after the first Avengers cause they had they hands out asking for a little bit more money after they grossed a billion, what kind of leverage do they think they got. This ain't DC where they letting folks show up to work with moustaches. They get to talking to reckless and be reading on TMZ right along with us how Danny McBride been in the weight room and is the new Starlord.

No goalpost moving. You were comparing jokes done by comedians with the tweets.

Social media isn't work but is used as a marketing tool and a way for companies to interact with fans. When you got your company's name in your bio or, like in Gunn's case, have a promotional picture of the film you are working on in your header and tweet updates about the film, you are representing that brand. And the company that controls that brand are well in their right to hand down any disciplinary action they see fit when you post something that can tarnish that brand.

I had a coworker get in trouble for something they posted while having the company's name in his bio.

I doubt Disney were even thinking about checking a person's Twitter back in 2012 let alone searching back to 2008. They are a film company and they would look at a person's filmography instead online activity. Also Marvel Studios would've been the ones hiring not Disney themselves.

I don't see what past movies have to do with anything. Just because someone made some r rated movies with crude humor doesn't mean that person can't make a pg-13 film that's meant to be suitable for the family. You bring up he used the dirty dozen(which is a great film) as the pitch...okay lol I'm sure he meant the overall premise and not that the guardians would be made up as rapists and shyt.
