There's maybe 5(Arguably) players in the history of basketball with an actual BETTER career than Kobe : Jordan, Kareem, Magic, Wilt?, Shaq...

Started to struggle around the last two. To Say that a player with over 30k points, 5 championships, third best scorer of all time isn't a top ten player is crazy. There's only two players in the history of basketball with 30k points and 5 rings, and they're the best two in the history of the game.

fukk outta here with that hating shyt.

It's not hating, he used to be a great player but still not in my top 10 all-time though. And that's not slighting him, he's in my top 15.

Wait, are you saying that Kobe is the second best player in league history? :deadmanny: he doesn't even have a clear year where he was the best player in the league! Duncan and KG were clearly outplaying him in his prime. Not to mention that Shaq was CLEARLY better when they both played on the same team.

He was a great player, there's no doubt about that. But he is not a top 10 player in league history.

Much different league then and since he played with one of the 3 dominant bigs of that era, it made it that much easier to dominate a league where guards and wings were much weaker.
He only played 4 yrs with Cap and one of those years was Caps rookie yr. big O was dominating before Kareem hit the league

That bolded part is a lie. Neither of the two outplayed Kobe, Kobe routinely beat Duncan in the post seasons, 2001,2002,2004, and 2008, with Kobe being the best player in the series.

And lol at KG please nikka sit yo ass down.

It's your personal opinion if you don't like him, but him not being in your top 10 isn't based on his success or failures as a basketball player and is purely based on your personal dislike of him. And I never stated that Kobe is the second best player in league history, I said that only two players in league history have scored more than 30k points while winning more than 5 rings, MJ and Kareem.

Kobe didn't have a top tier rival like Magic did. Magic was better at battling with and beating HOFers like Bird, Isiah and to an extent Jordan.

:upsetfavre: if you think Bill Russell is anything short of a legend in any era.

Lebron is the best player that's played for the Heat but Wade is the greatest Heat player ever.

Magic's career was cut short so Kobe's longevity, all star appearances, and what he's done for the franchise is second to none even if he wasn't a better player than Magic.

Fuk outta here. Showtime > anything Kobe has accomplished as a Laker

300 murders a year
Isaiah thomas>>>> bird.

Biased, cause Isiah my 5th favorite player of all time behind jordan, iverson, hakeem, kobe. But 8 would take big O out and tie bird with hakeem for 10th.

Routinely beating someone isn't much of an argument when you're playing on the best TEAM. Of course Kobes teams beat alot of his peers, He was playing with Shaq at his peak for Gods sake.

I don't dislike Kobe, at all. Hes actually one of my favorite players still in the league. Its not hate to say he just isnt as good as some of his peers, and much less some of the best in the history of the game.

Rings are irrelevant when not placed in context. Three of his rings were him playing second fiddle to the best player in the league and one of the most dominant force (if not the most) in leagues history. That matters. Kobes simply not as impactful as some of the best players in league history. He was a great player though, still a top ~15 player in league history. That's huge.

Bird shouldn't be ranked that high.

co-sign. and duncan has no business being ahead of kobe and shaq. both dudes outplayed him in the playoffs. he might have a better career than them, but he's definitely not a better player. anyone who watched basketball during that era could see that.

my top 10 (based on accomplishments and the eye test):

1. Jordan
2. Kareem
3. Russell
4. Kobe
5. Magic
6. Shaq
7. Wilt
8. Duncan
9. Bird
10. LeBron

one more title for bron and he jumps Bird (who IMO he's already better than).

honorable mention: Hakeem, Oscar, Elgin, Isaiah Thomas, Malone, and Barkley (they're in that 10-15 range in no particular order)

in 2008 he beat Duncan (rather easily) with only Pau Gasol. remember Bynum was injured. Kobe won with a starting lineup of Fisher, Radmanovich, Odom, and Gasol over Timmy, Manu, and Parker.

to me 2008 was the death nail for any kobe v. duncan comparison. with comprable teams where both are the undisputed leader, Kobe owned him. in particular Kobe dominated games 1 and 5. most folks don't remember but the Spurs outplayed the Lakers for many stretches of those games. It was only after Kobe went crazy in the 4th that the lakers pulled away.

the only dudes with claims against kobe from his era is Shaq and LeBron. Duncan is not in their class. he was just fortunate to have been on loaded teams his entire career. started alongside a HOFer in Robinson and is now finishing alongside HOFers in Manu and Parker. just remember, duncan has never played a season without a HOF teammate.

Shaq at 9 bird at 5 :mindblown:

This can't be in any order

he disrespected shaq bigtime talkin bout if there was someone from the top 10 that would get moved out it would be shaq.

to me shaq is top 5 or close to it. the fact they got dudes like bird and duncan over him is an insult.

especially duncan since shaq dominated him almost every time they played. there was not one moment during the early 2000s (even when duncan was gettin mvps) where any GM would take duncan over shaq to build a team around. not one. so the fact they got duncan ahead of shaq in the all-time list is a farce.

:rudy: @ the underrating of Bird. Why is Magic ahead of him? Bird was universally considered the better player when they were both in their prime playing against each other, now all of a sudden Bird is barely top 10 and Magic is top 5?

how can people put bill russell on these lists. who actually saw im play? it just a respect the OG thing, nobody knows how he actually played. he played against 5ft notatheltic white boys.

:pacspit: simpathy votes

11 rings. at a certain point u have to respect accomplishments. no one has seen every era of the nba except for a few old heads who will never post on the coli. and even then u could still have disagreement. the only objective way to measure greatness is by ACCOMPISHMENTS. and russell has those.

to me top 10 rankings should be a combination of titles, stats, awards and accolades. the most important being winning titles as the man or close to it (in the case of Magic/Kareem and Kobe/Shaq). then its stats/awards, the consistensy of how dominant a player is. with players from the same era, then head to head matters (see duncan v. kobe/shaq). thats what my top 10 reflects.
