clear way to not only not pay your artist, but put them in debt. lol @ yall in here defending this solely cuz you don't like meg, let this be you favorite rapper and i'm sure all of a suddenly they have every right to fight it
Exactly.

They're looking at the 60/40 revenue split and saying she got a better deal than most without consideration of the finer details in the contract.

It's true that alot of artists get a smaller percent, but that's because the budgeting for marketing and recording expenses usually come out of the the record labels cut. That's why people are saying that her contract is worse than most, she's on the hook paying all expenses while 1501 just collects 60 percent of the revenue.

So Roc Nation strategy is to let small labels do all the leg work of building up an artist
Then swoop in with a management deal after they blow , highlighting everything wrong in the contract then eventually poaching them off that label so they can get them into a situation where they get more of a cut?
Meg, Uzi, and Meek basically followed that blueprint

This is wrong. Marketing and recording cost have always come out of the artist budget. That budget is not free money. Its an advance against future earnings. Artist dont get paid from the label until the label recoupes the costs of recording and marketing and what they spent on the artist to release the project. Meg made the decision to work with Roc nation and not her label 1501. That's her choice to have roc nation handle her marketing and recording cost. That has nothing to do with her labels right to 60% of the revenue per contract she signed. If she wants them to "earn" it then she should make them. But she ran to roc nation and cut them off instead. How is that 1501's fault? Contract is still a contract.

An advance is the label paying for the budget, after the money is recouped the profit gets split between the label and the artist. That's not how Megan's contract works tho, 1501 takes 60 percent of the gross revenue before the budget is accounted for, then they charge the budget to Megan's cut. A normal contract wouldn't split the profits until AFTER the budget has been paid, her contract splits it BEFORE and then takes the budget out of the artist cut.

They wouldn't be earning it either way, she was always on the hook paying for everything so she might as well go to people that can actually help grow her career rather than the people who mismanaged her previously. Obviously she needs to to fulfill the contract she signed, but it's clearly a garbage slave deal and they need to just let her fulfill it and stop trying to keep her trapped in the contract with these legal games theyre playing.

You aint making any sense. Megan has to release albums and singles for there to be any revenue to split. She started off as a new artist on 1501 so there was some level of label investment before she blew up. You can argue about how much they put up but it doesnt matter. Once revenue started coming in the label was entitled to 60%. Labels always get paid first before artist. When has this not been the case? They are the initial investors in the artist so they get paid back first. The artist budget is recouped from the artist share of revenue. That's actually a normal contract. The label is still holding the artist budget debt on thier books though until the artist generates enough revenue to pay it off. And the risk for the label is sometimes that doesn't happen. There is technically no risk to the artist though cause they dont personally hold the debt. And Back in the day it was a lot worse and a lot of artist were forced to tour to make back their album budget cost if their project flops.

She is in a 360 deal so they get a cut of everything. albums, touring, endorsements and merchandise. And roc nation has not paid 1501 any of what she has made from touring and merchandise yet. And she has made millions from tours and endorsement deals which is why Carl is suing her since roc nation hasnt opened up their books to account for all the money they made to date. 360 deals are standard these days whether you like them are not. And most artist are not getting 40% split. Thats pretty generous.

I suggest you actually look up the details of the court cases because you are completely wrong about all of this. 1501 did not say they weren't getting paid money and carl is not suing her, it's the other way around, carl is counter suing and losing. The lawsuits were about 1501 not approving her album releases, saying they were mixtapes that did not count towards fulfilling her contract, a judge ruled in Megan's favor. 1501's lawyers did not say they weren't being paid for the roc nation deal, they wanted to see the books because they don't know if they're being paid enough from it. The details of the lawsuit sounds like 1501 actually owe Meg money. 1501 is not countersuing for money, their suit revolves around trying to keep her albums from counting towards fulfilling her contract, not money they're owed.

You are going off shyt Carl Crawford has said on social media when the actual court cases tell an entirely different story.

troy got face n mike d (suc) in the dope unintentionally.. they were with him everywhere he went

troy saw somethin was up with face..he kept a diary.. filled with raps n thoughts..face had a breakdown...troy got em told em to put that energy on wax..told em make a song about him..

thats where the song scarface came from..that song is about troy......

OC0zNDU4LmpwZWc.jpeg

face was the first rapper in houston.. to make thousands of dollars..from gettin booked at venues to perform the only 2 songs he had had.. scarface n anutha head put to rest.. be4 keke... and slim thug

troy wasnt trippin on the money...or the rap shyt he did it for them lil nikkas could eat vs gettin caught up..

j prince enters... he gets with face ask em who he signed with etc.. he isnt sign with anyone... but troy help get the music out..j asked em about shortstop.. face says thats troys label.. go holla at troy..

troy n j hooked up .. troy pretty much said .. later down the line if he needs a favor ....they shook on it ..

face became what we know of up until my homies...

troy needed a favor from j... troy had 2 kis he needed to get rid of...n he would split whatever is made wit j.. he stalled troy out.. n troy ended up gettin caught up with those 2 kis ironically

1999 wanna be a baller hits.. n it his big.. j gets at troy about using the song for realest nikkas down south album.. troy tells him go fukk himself...

rapalot gets raided..

face gone... last of a dyin breed was his last album on the label.. j fukked himself puttin that my homies 2 shyt out... face didnt have shyt to do with it... its a interview with sway where face ranks all of his albums.. n he points all of the ones thats not him..

6:00

face at def jam..eatin better than he ever did as a artist.. he is ready to drop the fix......smoke has cleared in houston from the investigations.. j muscled his way by puttin his name on the fix album

face n troy never had problems.. they celebrated him being out n kicked it n everything..

j decides to do some snake shyt....j n irv booty pals now... so he does irv a solid.. n disses 50 on snitch nikkas ft zro

face verse was a old verse aimed at yukmouth...it e

the verse j used came from a last of dying breed left over he was on yuks head on that album...

face didnt have shyt to do with snitch nikka.. when it dropped the only person who spoke on it .. was bun b ...he is the one who put it out there that face verse was about troy...

at the same time...troy n face was cool.. so it blind sided troy..troy asked face.. face said it was j...n that he wasnt fukkin with j like that no more.. but he was actually was

j took troy to court over the face vocals...troy lost but he won.. j didnt own none of the masters troy used..the 222,000 face was already gettin.. continued lol

face was frustrated because he couldnt get mad at j for fear of bein discipline.. so he was upset at troy... but troy didnt give a shyt

the bigger the battery j put in face back.. added up to a $500,000 lawsuit troy won on face..

2007 n 2008 face was rushin to get done n retire..

he comes back deeply rooted...with his own shyt...

somehow someway the baby momma stops gettin payments.. but gets greg abbott to personally handle the child support case...only one person in houston with that type of political pull..

face had been performin for yrs.. in atlanta no issue.. but he gets an award at the bet awards..n gets arrested immediately in front of his peers..

who would set up such a thing??

n the more u look at him ... u notice he wire like images...unintentionally lol

I try to always side with artists over management.

These labels and managers think they’re the stars.

Her whole problem with 1501 was that she was blowing up with no support from her label, even when she had hits they weren't doing anything with her. She blew up off viral instagram songs, 1501 were not pushing her music.

Thats not how the music industry works. You don't get on radio playlist and in rotation across the country without a label putting hundreds of thousands of dollars behind you. It just doesnt happen. And its all paid marketing including "going viral".

I mean Erica Banks aint meghan but she on the rise, fyi if yall think that buss it song blew up organically and had all these celebs doing the buss it challenge without a little payola idk what to tell you.

Without a 1501 Erica Banks would be another thot rapper in a long line of thot rappers, having money in your corner can turn a song only your homies know into a hit record on the radio.

It can turn a broad who ceiling was the strip club into cardi b, just cuz someone not on Meg level dont mean nothing if your potential was open mic night but your now on the radio and getting interviews thats a major upgrade.

Yeah, I think the truth is somewhere in the middle. 1501 advanced her career and got her noticed, but probably didn't bend over backwards for her the way she liked. She did a lot of legwork herself as well, and probably felt she did more for her than they did, but you're supposed to feel that way as an artist.

Now that Meg doesn't need them, they are still *rightfully* eating off of her, and she hates it.

There's a reason out of the three separate lawsuits between them, Megan has won all of them. 1501 had expense reports that had cars and jewelry bought for other people on Megan's expenses.

Consider that artist almost never come out on top taking their label to court over contract disputes and Megan has done it and won 3 times. They're on the 4th lawsuit now, and from the sound of these social media post, Megan seems to be winning again.
