Track 1 sounds like a left over diggaz track and track 2 sounds like rza in 96
Lmao that's a whole fact!

Now that I listen it does sound like some RZA shyt for sure. Could imagine Wu spitting to that shyt lol.

He chops and fukks w/samples like to rza
On those tracks yes but I wouldn't say all his beats have that style imo. A lot of his shyt be more melodic and soulful than Rza especially his later work. I can't imagine Rza making a beat like Gobstopper of Donuts or Waves.

I'm halfway through and this dude was WILD
beating broads, dipping out and hiding kids, aborting childbirths, full mink coats, fukkin up his people's albums, kept the hammer on him at all times
Meanwhile his image was "conscious" "soulquarians"
He was really living the life these wannabe thug and gangsta rappers rhyme about
But that's usually the case. Peep Jada going to private school and shyt.
Anyway I wonder if the doc based on this book is gonna go into all this other dark shyt?
Surprised cancel culture hasn't caught up or even the "separate the man and the art" convo

But then I went back and listened to Labcabin and Welcome to Detroit this past weekend
Brilliant, no question
The book itself is throughly researched and the narrative flows
For not being a tell all type, it sure has a lot of "oh shyt" moments
For real it does get real dark and Dilla wasn't a saint but I like that the author told the story as it was without coming off like he was slandering Dilla. He spoke on the abuse and him hiding the child but didn't make it come off tell all like or even like he had a bias view.

I do hope that the cancel culture mob doesn't come for Dilla and some people say maybe those stories should have been taken out the book. However I feel it's not wrong of the author to tell the truth. However I do wonder how his mom feels about the book?

i wasn’t, and I don’t think that cats are saying everything he does is rza influenced, not everything he did was Pete rock influenced. But the way he chops his samples some would say is rza influenced. Now how they put it all together is a whole different story. I can’t imagine Dilla doing some shyt like 4th chamber or sandman. :manny:

Right same way Rza probably wouldn't have done an Alien Family, Didn't Cha Know or The look of love especially not drum wise. I get what you're saying though.

that cuz people dont listen to the words that come out of peoples mouths.

Slum Village albums are just dudes rapping about getting hoes. Raise it up is Dilla FLEXING hard AF on everybody that ever fronted. :manny:
Wasn't anything conscious about those cats, straight everyday breh Detroit shyt. I forward any outsider/out of town cat to any Detroit based Dilla collab if they want to know about the city.

He fumbled the bag with that one. Though I low key feel a way you tried to say he bit Pete Rock and Q-Tip. I don't think either of them chop or do drums like him.

Though I feel a way you said he bit Q-Tip and Pete Rock. I don;'t think either of them chop or do drums like this and his bass lines were dumb too. Dilla was special lol.

@Tommy Gibbs is Def one of my fav posters on here but homie is trippin with that one:hubie:

Finished it. The drama with the will, the estate, Ma Dukes vs. Joy, Egon, House Shoes...all of that could be a book in itself.
The hidden daughter reveal

I was never a Dilla stan, although I do love Labcabin and LWFC. But after reading this I came away wanting to forget/ignore all the foul behavior (more like what's done is done) and "stick to the music." I appreciate the sample timing breakdown and time stretching the MPC, but I can't put him above Primo, RZA, Dre, or Marley in the GOAT convo.

I hear you, I got the book by way of the libby library app. They had the audio version and I was on a wait list for months just to hear it lol. I'm really enjoying getting into audiobooks and am building a little library but back on topic.

Man I don't even know where to start.

First off we all need a friend like Maurice, he held Dilla down heavy.

Then I hate Egon, I don't know why but I feel him forcing a a jaylib part 2 when Dilla was very sick seemed cash grabby to me a little bit. No wonder Dilla used to curse him and peanut butter wolf out. He also tried to push him into working when he was sick as fukk and didn't back Ma Duke up in her issues with shoes.

Speaking of what do you think about the beef with Ma Dukes and house Shoes?

To think he may have actually had AUHS and if he lived to 2012 he could have lived longer due to medical advances.

Lastly,Common always had a cold one. Can't believe he had Taraji Henson at Jay Dilla's funeral. I realzied now his game, he be pump and dumping them chicks. I don't think he ever wanna wife them, no way none of them relationships don't work out. He just get really busy and neglectful on purpose or some shyt to end it but he act like a nice guy lol.
I mean dude already has children/probably doesn't want that standardized family/husband/wife type build. Smart way for him to move at this point imo. Com is a nice guy, ran into dude in the hotel lobby on my wedding night. He chopped it up with a breh for a minute. I made sure I gave him flowers too/let him know I've been down since common sense. He could have easily kept it moving like other cats I've ran into.

he was with a nice piece too:mjlol:, but it could have been his publicist or something , i didn't ask any questions :manny:

He did, who else sounds like Dilla :what:
when we first heard dilla, we didn't even know he was nationally. Reading the credits for Beats Rhymes and life, we didn't know who Jay Dee was. We initally thought Q tip was still doing the beats. He was heavily influenced by Q tip. You read the book. hahaha> Pharcyde thought Jay Dee was actually Q tip. Dilla is dope, but that type of production didn't begin with him. Pete, Rza, and Tip all pre-date him. he just took what they were doing and added his spin on it. Then he links up with Madlib and takes elements from his style. Nothing is wrong with that.
