Schooling people takes forever; don't bother

Every copy of this 2001 CD that I've come across had errors throughout such as skipping, gaps and clicks of which could've been caused by hardware or software issues or disc damage. I fixed these errors through Izotope to restore this legendary batch back to how it was when Dilla made it.... and so there was no remastering done, no dynamics squashed from increasing volume and no tinkering with the track listing. The only addition I've made here is the cover art and fan-made track titles which anyone can remove on their end if they wish. The vast majority of the titles are based off the sample which Dilla used on it and some are based off their official release.

exported as lossless to avoid re-encoding to MP3 which would've reduced the quality

Yeah those who know are the Hip Hop heads. But those who are more so fans of more strictly just mainstream Rap music, might not. Either way, dude is an overlooked producer and he really only started getting some of props around the time he got sick and passed.

Overlooked =/= underrated. And hes not THAT overlooked. Hes no more overlooked than other producers who had there time in the spotlight and lost it.

I understand and respect the talent, but I feel like he's forced into GOAT convos. Like, with other producers, you know certain work put them into those conversations. Like, Dre has Chronic (and even if you remove Chronic there's Doggystyle and other albums you could put there), Marley has Ain't No Half Steppin' and Mama Said Knock You Out, RZA has 36 Chambers and the solos from Wu members. Premo has iconic songs on Nas, Biggie, and Jay Z debuts on top of the Gangstarr, Group Home, Jeru The Damaja stuff. I could go on. With J. Dilla, I don't see that. Not saying that he isn't great, but when people say GOAT or even Top 10, I just can't put him over a lot of producers that I consider Top 10. He's more Top 15-20 to me.
I feel the same….. I’stay quiet when nikkaz talk dilla on here …. Didn’t see this love when he was alive and I get it

Thanks for the link, much appreciated, but I can’t open the zip. Think I really need mp3 as I’m going to be creating playlist albums on Spotify to go through alongside reading the book.

Coming off the Wu-Tang book and onto this. Been a good time for hip hop books lately.

:whoo:
which wu-tang book? the ghostface book?
i repackaged it. i had a feeling the .flacs were upscaled anyways

Hey, that’s great…Thanks :blessed:

No, not Ghost’s book, I’m reading ’From The Streets of Shaolin’. Also read U-God and Raekwon’s books not long ago.

The Madvillainy one is a good read as well. Although I am biased as I contributed and have a few quotes in that book.

MF Doom has a biography coming out later this year. I already got it on preorder. De la soul has one as well too.

Yeah I noticed the DOOM one. It’s the same author who wrote From The Streets of Shaolin, so that’s a good sign as it has been a great read.

Didn’t know about the De La one though. Glad to hear it.

how many classic songs did he give us? not saying he wack, but the nut hugging he gets from questlove and corny questlove like disciples is amazingg. he aint just the goat but he is by far the goat in their opinion . im like, how many of these dude songs is in heavy rotation. how many classics that everyone know. he's like the Big L of producers, cats swear he the goat but the facts aint back it up.

I like Dilla, never understood the hype to much, till this day i still say Madlib is levels above him even if he didnt make a chart topper.

now from a beat makers perspective i know why people like dilla, them beat tapes are a good blueprint, even though Dilla's beats can be abit boring.

Would have J Dilla aka Jay Dee quite a bit higher than that for me, the best of what he did with Tribe, Pharcyde, De La, Common, Slum Village, Badu, Roots etc. Stands up against any of the other producers who always seemed to get mentioned in goat debates. He put in a vast amount of work over his 11/12 years in the game. Most of the music he made has only grown in stature as the years have rolled on.

While I respect it, I just don't see it. Nothing he did with those artists is on par with producers who get brought up in Top 10 lists. Badu is R&B and my favorite Dilla productions is what he did for her.
