Listened once but I have the same issue I have with all new music nowadays.

LET THE fukkING MUSIC PLAY. LET THE BEAT RIDE OUT. WHY ARE SONGS SO fukkING SHORT?

DO YALL PRODUCERS JUST NOT WANT US TO RIDE TO YOUR shyt? BOPING MY HEAD THEN *CUT* BEATS DONE. SONGS OVER. LET THAT shyt RIDE OUT.

How you work for years on a album and have some songs with 1 verse and a sudden end?

Im sick of it. fukking lazy.
No one wants to hear 5vmintues songs anymore. No matter how much you bold and increase the font. It’s been this way going on 4 years now

No dreamville features?
:dwillhuh:

One of the Earthgang dudes would’ve fit nice on one of those songs

I mean, thats not really surprising. Prior to this he's only ever featured Bas on one album and that was a bonus cut (still put the GOAT 50 on the song with Bas though :blessed:).

Bas is credited on 3 songs on this album though which is a big look. He just gave them all major shine with Dreamers Vol 3 too.

As much as I would have loved to hear JID, Cozz or Earthgang on here, major artists putting their crew all over the album is a thing of the past unfortunately.

Just played ‘close’

its immediately a super familiar sample that’s not even dope enough that I can place where I heard it initially and this cheese wiz ass cornball is doing his best I rap better than mumble rappers impression.

me while, that trash Migos video that’s stickied sounds like much better rapping for my ears. I’m like Hesh from the Sopranos. I know a hit. And Cole has never had a hit.

I'm gonna call it right now.
Easily just as good as 4 your eyez only and Forest Hill Drive.
If I keep spinning this over the next few weeks, I'm going to say it's one
of his best projects period.

First time in a long time that Cole has given me that Skyzoo, Royce Da 5'9", Elzhi spittin
as far as the virtuosity and skill on display.

I agree the album has a mixtape feel, although not a “J Cole mixtape” feel. Many of the tracks are lyrical/flow exercises, rapping about rap etc. And that’s fine! How conceptual was The Blueprint for instance? Most of that album was Hov flexing. Coming off two concept albums that weren’t “fun” (but still good albums) this is a welcome shift.

And he nails the songs that have concepts or themes. Close might be his best song.

Production wise you can hear the collaboration. Tae Beast is known for his drum loops and you hear them on his track. Boi1da’s drums ring off a couple times. And you can tell Cole is finally learning from other producers being in the room. His shyt sounds better than it ever has on here.

Maybe all the basketball stuff is him working out for this tour because mannn, that breath control gonna need to be tight to perform these songs lol.
