traveling is just another way to distract from this major problem... Tolstoy called this "licking the honey"..

The story begins with the Eastern fable of the dragon in the well. A man is chased by a beast into a well, at the bottom of which is a dragon. The man clings to a branch that is being gnawed on by two mice (one black, one white, representing night and day and the relentless march of time). The man is able to lick two drops of honey (representing Tolstoy's love of his family and his writing), but because death is inevitable, he no longer finds the honey sweet.

Tolstoy goes on to describe four possible attitudes towards this dilemma. The first is ignorance. If one is oblivious to the fact that death is approaching, life becomes bearable. The problem with this for him personally is that he is not ignorant. Having become conscious of the reality of death, there is no going back.

The second possibility is what Tolstoy describes as Epicureanism. Being fully aware that life is ephemeral, one can enjoy the time one has. Tolstoy's problem with this is essentially moral. He states that Epicureanism may work fine and well for the minority who can afford to live "the good life," but one would have to be morally empty to be able to ignore the fact that the vast majority of people do not have access to the wealth necessary to live this kind of life.

Tolstoy next states that the most intellectually honest response to the situation would be suicide. In the face of the inevitability of death and assuming that God does not exist, why wait? Why pretend that this vale of tears means anything when one can just cut to the chase? For himself, however, Tolstoy writes that he is “too cowardly” to follow through on this most “logically consistent” response.

Finally, Tolstoy says that the fourth option, the one he is taking, is the one of just holding on; living “despite the absurdity of it,” because he is not willing “or able” to do anything else. So it seems “utterly hopeless” - at least “without God”...
Camus bit Tolstoy? I'll have to look into this more :wow:

We might be in some sort of HELL. A punishment of some sort.

For all I know this might be a classroom simulation that youll keep coming back to until you "get it right".

Your body itself (your flesh & bones) is the most advanced prison cell imaginable. It gets hungry & thirsty so you have to constantly feed it. It's subceptible to disease and sickness so you have to exercise and feed it healthy foods. It ages and one day you'll be unable to take care of yourself. There's literally no way to escape it except for death.

Society is the prison itself.

Your physical body = prison cell

Society = the prison.

Your spirit = the real you.

Nobody is happy here (except for temporary happiness) and NOBODY of sane mind would return here if given the opportunity after death.

If you haven't brought any kids into this existence.......don't.

Find peace in the fact that
you could be murdered at any moment,
contract a dreadful disease,nuclear war
looming and pretty much the end of the world.

let's imagine one of the worst possible lives a person could have:

they're born into a slum, a parasite blinds them at a young age, their family leaves them because they can't take care of them... they have to walk the streets and a car hits them, so now they can't really even do that.... slowly this person's ears go bad too. now they can't really walk well or see at all and have to scrounge for food, don't know where their family is, etc. people constantly take the little money or food they can gain because there's nothing they can do about it.

is life still whatever you choose to make it for this person?
lets say there are two parallel universes...

all the events you mentioned happened to to the same person in each of those universes...

in the first universe... the person took a look at everything that has happened to him...

and sees no future, no hope, no happiness.... he makes no attempt at anything because why would he when he doesnt believe anything is possible?

in the second universe, the same events happen to a person..

but they respond by looking for motivation/inspiration in the stories of people...

who have overcome physical limitations, poverty, loneliness, helplessness...

they see hope even if it doesnt really exist... they approach life in that manner regardless of the current circumstance....

looking at these two people who have gone through identical events.....

which of the two is stronger?

which of the two has a better chance of finding and taking advantage of opportunities they may come across?

which person's life story would be more worthy of studying and understanding?

if you had a child... which of the two personalities would you want them to mimic?

which of the two personalities is a sucka./..

which of the two is a solid one?

i started thinking like that after George Floyd died.... there is no solution to the problem of anti blackness.. it will continue without end, as long as the world exists.. furthermore.. all solutions presented rely on anti black instruments to address anti blackness.. a vicious and tortuous cycle that will only produce more pain and disappointment. the good feeling we from hopeful solutions will not translate into freedom, justice, or resolution.. it merely provides temporary reprieve from that fact that black people are not safe in an anti black world.. a fact that can become overwhelming.. the form of anti blackness might alter, but anti blackness itself will remain a constant..
Yo have you read Afro Pessimism by Frank Wilderson? Check him out on YouTube interviews/ podcast if you haven't.

I reccomm Ecclesiastes 1:9 -12 OP. Seems like maybe you have finally woken up.

Pleasures Are Meaningless

2 I said to myself, “Come now, I will test you with pleasure to find out what is good.” But that also proved to be meaningless. 2 “Laughter,” I said, “is madness. And what does pleasure accomplish?” 3 I tried cheering myself with wine, and embracing folly—my mind still guiding me with wisdom. I wanted to see what was good for people to do under the heavens during the few days of their lives.
4 I undertook great projects: I built houses for myself and planted vineyards. 5 I made gardens and parks and planted all kinds of fruit trees in them. 6 I made reservoirs to water groves of flourishing trees. 7 I bought male and female slaves and had other slaves who were born in my house. I also owned more herds and flocks than anyone in Jerusalem before me. 8 I amassed silver and gold for myself, and the treasure of kings and provinces. I acquired male and female singers, and a harem[a] as well—the delights of a man’s heart. 9 I became greater by far than anyone in Jerusalem before me. In all this my wisdom stayed with me.
10 I denied myself nothing my eyes desired;
I refused my heart no pleasure.
My heart took delight in all my labor,
and this was the reward for all my toil.
11 Yet when I surveyed all that my hands had done
and what I had toiled to achieve,
everything was meaningless, a chasing after the wind;
nothing was gained under the sun.

Wisdom and Folly Are Meaningless

12 Then I turned my thoughts to consider wisdom,
and also madness and folly.
What more can the king’s successor do
than what has already been done?
13 I saw that wisdom is better than folly,
just as light is better than darkness.
14 The wise have eyes in their heads,
while the fool walks in the darkness;
but I came to realize
that the same fate overtakes them both.
15 Then I said to myself,
“The fate of the fool will overtake me also.
What then do I gain by being wise?”
I said to myself,
“This too is meaningless.”
16 For the wise, like the fool, will not be long remembered;
the days have already come when both have been forgotten.
Like the fool, the wise too must die!

But if you dont read it,to sum it up your life is meaningless. You are supposed to be living for god.
