I know this is gonna sound like a ridiculous question but how do you know you have depression?

Some people can confuse stress with depression. What are things someone can look out for?

I dont think it is a ridiculous question and I think it is a great question because I wonder the same thing also

  • Change of appetite
  • Crying in a instant
  • Constant suicidal thoughts
  • Trying to find peace in purchasing decisions
  • Not wanting to get out of bed
  • Don't want to be bothered
  • Barely give a damn about keeping yourself up (hygiene, clothing, etc)
  • Lashing out at family members and friends
:aicmon:Majority of these bullet points sums up my on and off depressed mode.

Some of y'all have to stop absorbing so much negative energy. Stop watching so much bullshyt on the internet and the news. Stop absorbing other people's issues as if it is your reality. Sometimes coming to the Coli, some of these topics will make you think nikkas are back in physical bondage but that's only a reality if you believe it is.

I think there are many people on this site who are going through depression. You can tell because they are hostile and negative for no reason. And they take their anger out on other people. For someone dealing with depression, spending most of your time here, is probably not the best thing. But people heal in different ways.

Anywho, I wish you the best op. Depression ain’t a joke.

I feel you on that, being a black man in America brings alot of stress especially when waking up in the morning you think that it's gonna be a good day, and then you turn the TV and the first thing you see on the news is another black man being gunned down by the police or either some other shyt. That shyt fukks with you even if you try to not think about it somehow later on that day it pops back up, but what I do is listen to some music, cook a nice meal and try to relax or I might call up my sister and go chill basically just try to stay busy.

I’m bipolar and despite what everybody think it’s not just constant mood swings every second. Its going from feeling eurphic and depressed, and that’s why there’s 2 types.

I may have been thru the depression phases I still don’t know. This day and age everybody claims they’re depressed. My homegirl said she’s been depressed cuz her bf broke up with her :yeshrug: ion feel like that’s depression

But there’s people with actual depression

Honestly idk how it’s classified, people use it too loosely. But if u tell em they ain’t depressed u come off as an a$$hole

This world is the black man's hell.

I'll never forget u made this statement

I'm the only nikka here really from the traditional black experience.

And u said it with ya chest poked out. I asked you "what is the traditional Black experience?" and u never answered. Now you're here saying u are depressed and the world is the Black mans hell.
Well homie now I understand why I could never relate......I watched you speak on being so worried about what white folks are doing and white folks using uncle toms for their evil plans and how certain Black groups aren't "Black" enough....Yet here u are now....What has all that got u? Yeah you got daps left and right but u still depressed. I asked u "what is the traditional Black experience?" and now I got my answer...According to you its hell and depression. That means that if I was to listen to any perspective/insight or advice on this site u gave in the past and followed it , it will just lead me to being in the current state u are now in. I say all that because u were supposed to be this woke law student and now u saying u depressed. So basically, I cant even challenge your stances concerning race anymore because now It would be like I'm poking at you. Atleast, now I know were u stand. I wont challenge any of your view points anymore. I'm just gonna let u rock because obviously posting on this website gives you some sort of solace.

Men denying they need help is a taboo that needs to be deaded. I spent a long time internalizing grief and depression. Suffering from PTSD and severe anxiety, I would sleep for 12 sometimes 15 hours. Couldn't eat and just felt completely helpless. My sister was the one who forced me to get help. Medication and therapy helped but it took awhile to get the right combination. I don't do therapy anymore because it didn't help me but it taught me coping skills. Meditation, working out, writing poetry all helped me get better.

Sometimes even with all that there are still times where I feel down but it goes quickly. I don't live inside my head or overthink anything as much. If you feel you need help get it, you can get better.

So much this.

Just last week, I felt led to delete my hip hop albums and play games that are not too dark. Next thing I know that I felt a little bit at ease since most of the media that I consume was on a negative aspect. It's no different from the food you eat. I keep lecturing my son of how much fast food changes your mood and etc, unless it's heavily moderated.

Bottom line, its all in moderation. When you watch a violent movie, switch it up with a 1940s romantic flick. Listen to trap music, bump some jazz to balance it out. It's all in how you want to go by in life.
