I've seen Blockbuster already posted but maaaaan.
There was nothing better than your folks declaring Friday or Saturday a Blockbuster night.
They would rent their movie and rent you a videogame or two.
Might even grab you some candy at the checkout and if they didn't feel like cooking, they ordered a pizza when you got back home.
:ohlawd:
Gamefly, Red Box and Netflix just ain't the same.

The one in hunters creek went under last year. Was here since I first came to Florida in 1996. The feels man. Big part of my childhood was spent waiting for my friends to agree on what games and movies to rent. Bought smack down: here comes the pain there too.

Damn shame breh. It was the spot but when streaming hit, it killed them.
They always had used games on sale for a good price, too.
Always preferred them to Movie Gallery.

Yeah I remember having Hollywood video close by, and while having all of DBZ was nice they just couldn't compete movie wise. I heard in the early 2000's they passed on a chance to pair with Netflix. Ain't that some WCW firing Steve Austin and Mick Foley thinking they can't draw type shyt?

:heh:

Yeah they had a chance to literally buy Netflix but completely declined the offer.
The CEO Reed Hastings (?) offered to sell Netflix to Blockbuster for 45 million or so. Maybe more.
They were delivery based at the time.
Much like Vince, they were out of touch and didn't see change was on the horizon, so they turned him down.
I believe Netflix is worth something like 15 billion or so now.
:deadmanny:
May have been a blessing in disguise though.
Blockbuster was resistant to change and honestly, after decades on top it's easy to see how they got lulled into a sense of security.
I'm not sure if streaming would have immediately taken off like it did if Netflix had been aquired by Blockbuster.
They were just too stubborn and late to the party, which is largely why they were killed by Redbox and Netflix.

how could you not love arcades
The old Chuck E. Cheese's and Pistol Petes used to be massive with a ton of arcade machines. Occasionally they would have lock-ins where a bunch of kids would spend a night over there and get unlimited tokens. I miss the arcades
