Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven
I'm rewatcging mad Men right now and it's in the conversation for top 5 of all time.

My top 5 are

The wire
Sopranos
Curb you enthusiasm
Chappelle's show
Mad men

Got will probably dethrone mad men
mad men definitely.. especially the attention to detail of going back in time

the writers would go back and check the damn weather in new york to make sure they had the correct weather for the days it was on the show.... thats some shyt

i was just thinking of this too.... last season ended up ruining the entire fukking thing... to the point it's never even spoken of.... but damn if boardwalk empire wasn't the shyt.. we don't have any other shows that had all the legendary mobsters and their come ups like that.. if it wasn't for the last season it'd at least be top 20

Na. I know like 20 people who just keep rewatching sopranos cause its so lit.

The drama of the wire. The comedy of curb. The suspense of thrones.

Sopranos is the goat

Whats unbelievable about that. I grew up around wannabe mobster guineas, sopranos is the bible and realer than u think. The shyt they get into is comedy.

Paulie losing his shoe eating keychup packs >> life.

I think it was paulie ( maybe feech) who knocked the guy out the tree over territory. Lmao.

Those ducks.

Aj fukking up tryna kill himself lol

Tony stranglin chris for being on dope again

Paulie yellin at ghosts

Paulie stealin the old ladies money under the mattress n suffocating her adter tryna talk his way out

Paulie fighting the columbians

My mans head getting ran over and the faces lmao.

Sopranos alll day
you hit the nail on the head

i've rewatched the sopranos at least 12-15 times

it is the zenith all shows try to achieve

:blessed:

I like Thrones but it's not innovative enough to be considered a GOAT TV show. What do you get when you mix good source material, dragons, magic, knights, antiquity, duels, battles, t*ts, c*nt, and family feuds into a pot and put enough money and smart film makers behind the trigger? You'll get a showthat's dope whist being broadly appealing enough that everyone will watch and enjoy it. But it's not brought TV making forward as a whole:

-Wire: Turned the great american novel into a TV show, you already know.

-Sopranos: No show has been this character driven, ever. Mad Men's a contender but Matthew Weiner's an ex-sopranos writer anyway. At the end of season 6 most of the characters' are back where they started. That's real-life.

-Breaking Bad: Did the most to develop the language of television. Best shot show ever. The way they paced and developed it, and how they visually teased out story-telling is untouchable.

That said, Deadwood season 1 is the best 11 hour movie of all time
Not innovative? Hasn't brought tv forward as a whole?

Have you seen the growing pastiche of shows that have been made in the last 6 years solely because of the success of Game of Thrones? You got network tv shows being made about the Bible that is emulating the aestetics of Thrones.

And I can't fathom how you can say it hasn't brought tv forward as a whole.

For the longest time critics have been saying that shows like The Wire, The Sopranos, The Shield, and Breaking Bad have brought prestige TV to the standards of films, but Tv still trailed far behind in spectacle and blockbuster effects. Game of Thrones, especially the last two seasons has done more than any show in history to narrow the gap. Some have even said the spectacle and effects of the last two episodes have surpassed blockbuster movies. That is unheard of for tv.

I mean you can argue that Thrones is overrated or pulpy spectacle or whatever but you cannot say it isn't innovative or hasn't pushed tv forward.

Btw i got it something like

Sopranos(overall fav cause it has everything)
The wire(no better television than s4.nothing)
Xfiles(motw episodes are so good. Ao many greats)
Breaking bad(the lead to the end IS suspense)
Game of thrones(best show with a true singular arc)

Xfiles has too many great episodes for me to just dismiss it on a alltike liat

Seinfeld and curb is in the comedy category.

I wanna get into madmen when i have the time.

I agree, breaking bad is great but one of those shows that has such a long buildup to everything it's hard to rewatch, The wire was amazing but I thought they dropped the ball a lil with season 5 and the ending in general, still good but definitely not as great as the rest, especially 3 & 4, never watched the sopranos...so guess I can't really comment but out of these shows I have seen...

GoT became the GOAT in season 2 or 3

The writing, Directing, cinematography, Music, costume and set design is just on a higher level. The Highest level.

Saying otherwise just shows your lack of taste.

Alot of people consume TV like fast food so for you there is really no difference between this and the walking dead.

But for people who actually take notice of what they are watching, GoT has been a gift from the gods.

I can't really get into Game of Thrones without thinking about the books and how far the show has deviated from them. Some of the characterization I really enjoyed has been destroyed by the show. At this point it's just expensive fan fiction. Because of that, The Wire, Sopranos, and Breaking Bad will always be superior to me.
