Can't give you this Comparison. Nas and Jay had Classic albums out the gate. "Thank Me Later" was not a "GREAT" debut. It was only a Good debut. "Good Kiid" was fantastic. Jay's 2nd album got him his first Platinum Plaque. And sans a few weak joints, it was a solid 4 MICS and that was "Vol 1". NaS came with the multi-platinum 2nd album "It Was Written". By the time Ether came NaS had 3 Platinum albums and 1 Gold Album as well as a Gold Compliation. Jay had 4 Platinum Albums and a Gold album. Kendrick is still early on his career. Drake is building up the commercial stats but he doesn't have the Classic Material. NaS and Jay were dropping Classic Material for years before Takeover/Ether popped off.

So no I don't see the comparison. I've already broken it down. Drake is in the 50/Nelly/Ja/T.I. Lane. He hasn't surpassed the success of DMX yet. So he's not in the Tupac-Biggie-Jay-NaS-Rakim etc Tier. This is the GOAT tier. K Dot is an amazing emcee but he's not even on the GOATS out west yet. Now to the T/S point, he just said "Mirroring" and even then I don't see it. J Cole also needs to be in the conversation as he is now stacking up the commercial success and critical acclaim. I honestly don't think any of them have a universal Classic yet but K dot is obviously the closest. "Take Care" and "Born Sinner" were both a success so I wouldn't say they had the sophomore slump. So let's what K dot can do.

Some people on this site are so dense. No one is saying that Drake is a replica of Jay-Z or that Kendrick is Nas re: music . The argument here is that their respective CAREER TRAJECTORIES appear to be the same thus far.

Thank you bro. I'm glad to see someone on this site has a fukking brain. All these nikkas comparing Drake and Kendrick's discography and shyt are completely missing the point and wasting their time.

Kendrick has no songs that white people over 40 and 50 know. Nas and BIG are known and loved universally by every race and age group not over 60.

nikka what? :dahell: I love Nas, pause, but you must be high right now. What Nas songs do old white people know? I guarantee you most people have heard the name Nas, but I really doubt the average 50 year old white person could even name one of his songs

naw, there is no comparison at all...and even if you tried to somehow make a comparison, kendrick would actually be more like jay than nas...cause if you think about jay/nas, nas was out first and the bigger/more popular rapper at the time...jay came out second and over took nas....if you compare that to drake/kendrick: drake came out first, and is the bigger/more popular rapper....kendrick came out after him....now if he overtakes drake, we'll have to wait and see....

but yea, they arent like jay/nas...and that's a good thing....the reason being is i know people like to try to make a 'new' (insert whomever they think is a legend), but that hurts the up and coming person they talking about more than it helps...once that person gets compared, people then start to expect that person to be like the one he/she is getting compared to...and if he/she doesnt meet those expectations, then he/she catches backlash....it's best to just let people be them and stop trying to look for the 'new' version of someone old....

Whoa.....

And this is why people make fun of Kendrick stans. You simply don't understand hip hop at all. You look at hip hop through the eyes of your favorite artist and not through an objective, far-reaching perspective.

To be fair, you're probably young and you're judging this music with an immature brain. When you grow up, you'll realize that what you've said is utter bullshyt.
lol spare me the "you're young" bullshyt. Jay-Z's music is stale at this point. Same goes for Nas even if Life is Good was a good album. His shyt from 2002-2012 what was ZZZZZs. He's good and will always be good at rapping, but if we're talking MUSIC, the sounds of his albums isn't interesting at all. Just a mish-mash of songs, a lot of which have mediocre beats because his ear for beats is pretty iffy. I loved Hip Hop is Dead when it came out, but I'm not gonna front and act like half of that album isn't throwaway filler. Cringe shyt like Carry on Tradition lol.

And I'm not even a Kendrick stan. I haven't fully listened to Section 80 or listened to his shyt before then. I just recognize artistry when I see it. He actually makes music that really pushes and tries to do new shyt. You think Nas and Jay-Z would make a song like ADHD or "I"? Lol no, they stay safe with their 3 verse, 3 chorus song structure. The biggest rappers making the most interesting music in Hip Hop right now are Kanye, Kendrick, Killer Mike/El P and Drake. Jay-Z and Nas just rehashing their old shyt.

nikka Ye's albums were going 3-4-5 times platinum and he was dropping #1 singles, he was all over the damn place. Everything he touched was a hit. To say Kendrick is even close to that level is an insult.
this is the truth and a half. Kenny Lamar is not in the same stratosphere as Ye in 07
