It's been over a year. How do you think this war will end?

How will this war end?

This war has been going for over a year now and it's getting pretty hard to imagine how it might actually end any time soon.

As long as the world keeps supporting Ukraine it's hard to see Ukraine ever losing. But Putin doesn't give a fukk about the wellbeing of his citizens, so it's hard to see him ever withdrawing no matter how many soldiers die or how much the sanctions fukk up Russia. And I can't really see Ukraine being interested in any sort of deal with Putin, Zelinsky doesn't seem like he has any interest in giving up any parts of Ukraine to Russia. But it's also hard to see Putin being removed from power, he's almost untouchable in Russia, not to mention he controls the media there.

So...anybody have an idea on how this will go in the long term? Will they still be fighting 5 years from now? Shyt can't go on forever :damn:

If Putin drops even a single nuke that's pretty much the start of WWIII

Usually I'd say Putin isn't that crazy, but these days I don't even know.
I don't think its WW3... i think we're bluffing.
Doesn't make sense to sacrifice that much life to stop a country that(thanks to sanctions) will be in no condition to invade or threaten another country.

Not that I want to see WWIII, but it's a terrible look if Putin starts dropping nukes and nobody does anything.

If that happens Putin will just feel like he can do whatever he wants and be even more emboldened.

I pointed this out in the main thread fairly early in the war and was hated on for it because it has basically just become a propaganda thread at that point where reality is uncomfortable.

I think it'll only end once Putin is deposed somehow. I just don't see either side stopping without that happening

Not only is Putin's deposition unlikely, but i don't think it should be assumed the war would end even then.

I think it ends in a North/South Korea style ceasefire, with an ongoing hot zone.

Agreed.

...either that or Putin drops nukes:manny:

Why would that end the war?

Putin drops nukes the fallout hits Europe. It's WW3 no matter what if that happens.

I agree with the first part... but the second part doesnt matter. Russia has been crippled and won't be a threat to the sovereignty of anyone.
The sanctions on them will cripple them for years to come.
