Classic like Illmatic. End of story. No person I knew who was in the streets hated on it. Bumped out of whips everywhere. Album was dark, fly, conceptual, street, and conscious all at the same time. It’s a reason I had to chase down the vinyl much harder than it was to get the Illmatic Vinyl. They doing a rerelease now tho so it will be way easier.

It's a certified classic and if it wasn't for people pushing the "Illmatic is the only Nas album that matters" narrative, you could argue that it's Nas' best album.

it aint no dam CERTIFIED classic.

its an ARGUABLE classic at best.

In real-time I never heard this album get hate…it wasn’t till I got on the internet and heard about dudes not liking “ if I ruled the world” and his subject matter…

The Hood loved this Album…Mafiaoso raps were in, especially after purple tape dropped.

Album is an Landmark

the album was half-hated IN THE HOOD.

"if i ruled the world" was aiird. i couldnt get into it like that, seeing how the three songs that it spun off from were all better:
AZ - sugar hill
kurtis blow - if i ruled the world
whodini - friends
so no, i couldnt get into the Nas version.

you really trying to die on this hill???:usure:
What hill? nikka that’s the gateway album to most Nas fans. If they didn’t love it. They wouldn’t have went back to check Illmatic in the first place. The album was everywhere in the streets. Which is why damn near every street rapper lists it as their fav Nas album. Including G Rap.

album was half-hated in real-time

caught unfair hate by the purists, BUT even if you werent a purist, the album still wasnt neccessarily ALL THAT.

this revisionist push by nas stans & media acting like it was some sort of landmark, needs to stop.

its an ARGUABLE classic at best.

lol, make a point instead of just a thread

Gateway album to NAS. Alotta people got introduced to Nas thru IWW. And loved it. And went back and checked Illmatic. Not saying nikkas in the streets ain’t have Illmatic don’t get it twisted. Cause nikkas did. But I’m saying that was alotta cats gateway to Nas. Especially outside of NYC.

As a Nas stan it's much much closer to a classic than I Am is to good and Nastradamus is to decent

A real Nas fan wouldn’t say this :unimpressed:

I Am was a classic and so was Nastradamus. Even if u wanna argue Nastradamus wasn’t, it was a much better album than given credit for. People who shyt on it only do so because they heard other people do it.

If someone else dropped Nastradamus it would be called a classic but because people expected Nas to make Illmatic over and over again, they downplay all his albums after it.
