Nas stans prop this album up because its no other album in Nas catalog close to being classic

So thats why they always talk about The Lost tapes as well. Deep down they know it

It's still his second best album. Definitely a classic.

But when it dropped, he was getting a lot of hate for it because it wasn't what people wanted from him. But truth be told, this is his last album that delivered on his level of talent. Nas got off course after this. The Lost Tapes doesn't count, lol. But I stopped trusting Nas to have a no-skip project after the OG I Am had to get scrapped.

Album is great…people saying it’s one of the greatest rap albums ever and might be better than Illmatic and all that extra shhit, yeah, it’s not that…at least for me 🤷🏽‍♂️. I got Stillmatic above it, 😳

"The Message" was CRAZY on there.

"Street Dreams" was everywhere when it dropped too. And "Affirmative Action" was getting a lot of play outside at the time. "Suspect" is one of my favorite Nas joints, but I always like album joints more than singles anyway.

If u play any of those records in a 35 and up venue that’s not there for Nas they gon go crazy for those records?

I'm not a DJ, I have no idea which Nas records would work in a auntie and unc function. LOL!!

I just know IWW was the last Nas album that REALLY spoke to dude's greatness, to me. He got wild inconsistent after that, but the first two albums and other random songs he did during that era ('94-'99) is why I have him in my Top 10.

I was listening to Live N Rap this morning

Prodigy's verse still gives goosebumps

Yo, NYC, U-N-I-verse, seriously
Havoc and P Queens nikkas, so it seem to be
Monopolize, strategies of war, exercise
Mega got word back from Noreaga
The D.A. got video cassette tape of
The god with the God-U-Now, pullin' a caper
Runnin' up in the spot, mask, and duct taped up
Pig-tie they motherfukkin' wrists to they ankles
I been through, crime shyt my nikkas into
Peep the issue, situation like this, we stickin' him too
JFK on our way to L.A
Got links with big cats down in Santa Barbré
My crew do it the Mobb way, every day
Crime pay, who wanna gunplay? Thrill me
nikkas kill me, grillin' me, you wanna look? Peep the nine milli
Now undress, you know the drill-y
nikkas suspect, weak links pose threats
I have yet to met challenger who go against my set
Gemstars razor sharp like Gillette, shavin' closely on
Any character approach me
I let the streets get the best of me, infamy, my destiny
While cat burg-lars tryin' to sneak peep the recipe
Inside my rap cookbook, paragraphs is gourmet
You pay about five thousand a plate

🔥🔥

That short era where Nas was KONY, On the radio daily, Selling mad records and even little kids knew his lyrics :wow:

Biggie and Pac dying killed that momentum something serious cause that whole era ended and the music shifted

album was half-hated in real-time

caught unfair hate by the purists, BUT even if you werent a purist, the album still wasnt neccessarily ALL THAT.

this revisionist push by nas stans & media acting like it was some sort of landmark, needs to stop.

its an ARGUABLE classic at best.
It was kinda “all that” tho, lol…it ran the street 100%, I was a child and still remember how nigs was jackin IWW crazy in 96.

It’s become a little bit overrated though in terms of quality, imo. I really see people say it’s better than Illmatic, 😂😂🤣😆😭, bro, how?!!??????! No it’s not man, 😆. Still a fire ass album tho, 4.5+ easy
