That Trump story is hilarious, to say the least. Apparently, social media remains a place where anyone can say anything, and someone gullible enough will help it go viral.
I'll prefer to move on from Soto conversations since dude is just trolling now. Dude wanted the biggest bag, no matter what he or Boras say, and he signed up for it. Everything else will be as irrelevant as his career impact going forward. Empty numbers in Citi Field. They should play "Ya Played Yaself" by Jeru when he steps up to the plate in YS3 in 2025, and the Mets are losing games 13-6 every night.
Here's where we are.
SP? Signed (Fried)
Closer? Acquired (Williams)
Middle relief? Signed (Johnny Lasagne)
LF? Bellinger via trade for Stroman
1B? Walker at 3 years
2B or 3B? Jazz gets one of these, no idea who fills the other position
Honestly, after dealing so much talent for a 1 year rental (Soto), who we didn't extend nor sign, I completely understand Cashman's reluctance to do it again with Tucker. Again, Tucker would be a 1 year rental..... If Tucker agreed to discuss an extension and they came to terms, Luis Gil heads to Houston. And apparently, Tucker and his camp think his next deal will be upwards of $500M..... I'd pass on that.
I really don't get how folks think giving up the best rookie SP (Gil) in the AL, after just trading a kid (Michael King) who finished 6th in Cy Young voting and another (Drew Thorpe) who brought back Dylan Cease, for a 1 year rental, is a no-brainer.
Thankfully, Cashman is showing some restraint. We could use Gil's value for something longer term, be it in the Bronx (through 2029) or for another productive player who's not a 1 year rental.
