I don't recall ever saying this.

I'm asking why his team mediocre with a much superior roster, and much better after he left, since ya making him out to be this one-man difference maker

Okay, I get all of this. I'm not minimizing his impact. But all of this led us to basically the 2022 team, only this time we lucked into playing the AL central.

His defensive blunder gave the Dodgers two runs in Gm 1.

This "Soto or we riot" that y'all on is a bad, bad, bad take

Because that's a better team than the one we have now. Now that he's gone, your alternatives

a) suck

and b) might not be good enough to drag the captain through the postseason.

so now that he's gone, what are they gonna change? Nothing. I may have said this earlier, but if losing Soto and hopefully punting 2025 leads to everyone losing their jobs, that's the only thing that can salvage the mess they have, but what they have now is messy.

Losing Soto woulda sucked no matter what, but had we won the World Series, it wouldn't sting as much. If Judge wouldn't keep disappearing in the playoffs, this wouldn't sting as much. If Judge was younger, this wouldn't hurt as much. If we felt the Yankees had a plan with the youngins who don't vote red down ballot, I might be more optimistic. I mean damn we didn't sign Yamamoto last year, and look, that hurt a lil, but the pivot was giving Stroman a 2 year deal. Cole getting hurt low key saved the rotation. SD ain't bytching too much cuz they still got their main core guys and in the Soto trade got King AND Cease and an open spot for Merrill. What's in it for us? A bum ass polar bear?

I’m not even mad at not having Soto but I’m mad (and it’s been like this for awhile) the Yankees are no longer the Yankees.

Yankees should not be outbid for anyone period.

Also this is why I wanted to go all in last year and sign at least one of snell/yammamoto/montgomery.

I know none of them lit the world on fire although snell and Montgomery might have been terrible due to not having spring training. But I knew and the Yankees I believe knew it was 99% one and done with Soto.

So why wouldn’t you try everything you could to take home the World Series? They knew they can cost and sell tickets all season and that’s fine for them.

Now I have no faith that Cashman can use that mo yeah successfully else where I really don’t.

Approx. $21B..... I'm unsure what the Dodgers' ownership is worth, but even they backed out of the Soto negotiations early and they need OFs. Price was just too crazy. I really don't blame Hal for walking away on this one. It's beyond an overpay, but Cohen has it and used his financial muscle to shut us down.

Moving on, Teoscar??? Wonder how much...

All you had to type out is "I don't like Judge". That would save you a lot of words. All this Juelzing ain't necessary my guy

Let him miss the playoffs with Tatis, Manny, Xander, with the CY Young Snell, in an expanded playoffs where 84 wins would've gotten you in, and you would be here singing a completely different tune.

You was ready to let him leave when Matt fukking Carpenter being the second most productive hitter. I can't let this hypocrisy slide.

I've said what I've always said about Judge. I like Judge, but I don't love Judge and a big reason as to why is because he talks too much shyt and doesn't back it up in the playoffs. He can get you to a Wild Card, maybe even a division title that Baltimore doesn't want, but come October, you gotta carry him to a ring and it's gonna be like that til he solves it.

Damn right I was ready to let him leave. I been stood on that because I was cool with blowing it up and hoping everyone got fired, just like I am now. I never went back on my stance. The only reason why 2023 turned out to be a waste is because nobody got fired.

It’s not about him specifically, but what losing him does to the long term prospects of the team. We’ve had stars with lousy defense before. Remember Jeter and Posada? In terms of what losing him means for the future, there’s nobody left to replace him with. Alex Bregman and Anthony Santander are the best two free agents on the market now. Both of them scream another Ellsbury type deal they’ll regret for 7-10 years depending on who it costs them in the future. This will now be the third time in 5 years they’re punting on the season before it starts and there’s no guarantee any help will be coming for 2026 when Judge will be 34, Cole will be 36, and Stanton will be 37. At this point they all fall off and can’t perform to their contracts so young stars probably won’t come here and Hal & Cashman will use their deals as excuses to not sign anyone since they need to dump salary. Now you’re back to 2013-16 where you have to pray Cashman develops a young core after having developed 1 guy in the last 27 years.

Basically due to the age of the rest of the core of the team and the lack of game changing free agents available, they essentially will be best case scenario rebuilding for the next 4-7 years now because now your only options are to ride the treadmill of mediocrity until judge and Cole retire and start all over or trade them now and try to rebuild right away.

People ought to understand that while Chisholm, Walker, Bellinger, Santander, Alonso all come with pop in their bats....none of them are actually good hitters.

You're just looking at less bad iterations of Joey Gallo.
That’s the issue. The past decade they’ve neglected the roster so badly that one guy really was that important. They presently have 4-6 holes in the batting order (including no leadoff or cleanup man) and no surefire solutions to any of it. If you’d gotten even 2-3 of Harper, Machado, Freeman/Olson, Correa/Seager/Turner, or Lindor you could withstand the loss of Soto. Instead you’ve got guys who routinely strike out on pitches deep in the zone, can’t get the ball into the air, and don’t hit the ball hard or get it out of the infield at all (Volpe) or guys who give AB’s away fast and don’t work counts or get on base (Volpe, Stanton, & Jazz) or guys who strike out a lot (Volpe, Stanton, Jazz). There’s no player to build around now for the future and it’s at minimum another year before they can even try to bring reinforcements for Judge and he’ll be 34 by then. Without a group of guys to build around for the future, free agents are a lot less likely to come here, especially with management passing on stars entering their prime during a title window. Now star players will see the team and have to think about “these guys refuse to go all in during a title window. Do I really want to sign with them long term?”.

Yup.

I like what Soto brought to the clubhouse and obviously on the field but throwing a bag at him was a blanket that kinda lets Cashman and Hal off the hook for years of stupidity.

15-16 years is heavy regardless of the opt out. Because if that’s the case then the team better be a lock for the pennant or in the conversation every year.

No guarantees

Time to give Jasson a legit roster spot and cash in some prospects because it’s time to tighten up a lot of holes in this lineup.
