That's why they wont do it.
They've had plenty of chances to have a black person win the big one, but it never seems to happen.
If Kofi got the reaction the internet says he did (didn't watch, so can't speak from experience), then smart money would at least have him being in the mix through WM season so they can stop throwing shyt at the walls to fix ratings. It's almost like if you give fans what they want......they watch
..........unless you had some other reason not to do it

If they don't see a difference then I see no reason why Kofi doesn't get the title belt with actual lineage with the company. I'm happy Mark and Book had runs on top of Smackdown, but it won't ever be the same until it's the title with however many decades of the company's lineage. The same belt that Hogan and Bruno and all their greats won. Not a b*stardized big gold belt with roots from another company and that nonsense ass red belt.

When Bryan got red hot 5 years they literally dropped everything and had him run through Evolution in a night and it was a great moment. Right now Kofi is gaining momentum can have his moment. Granted Cena vs. Bryan is once again the move to make to garner interest from the casuals but this is literally the Smark Super Bowl and imagine how much New Day merch they would move if they put the strap on Kofi. If they gotta shoehorn Cena on the card put him against Samoa Joe and let them build Joe back up.

You're not wrong on this at all. People do this to themselves all the time.
However......
"Plans may change" is what WWE lives by. There's plenty of cases where they've switched plans up to ride the wave of whoever was hottest.
Hell, didn't this whole Becky Lynch thing start as an excuse to get the belt off Charlotte so she could face Rousey? shyt turned into the only consistently positive thing WWE fans have been talking about for a while. So, if they can call an audible on what they clearly wanted to be their main event from a year ago, then they can change their plan for a match they planned on either jerking curtain with, or burying somewhere in the middle of the card anyway.
