this movie was dumb as shyt, can't believe this was billed as a good horror movie. am i missing something :dahell:

and i know i'm not cinematically smart, but i can't be the only one that thought the mix of modern and old props/items was clunky. i understand the carpenter look & feel he was going for, but going from a stainless steel built in ice making fridge to the avocado green 70's icebox, from the 87 station wagon to showing a shot of what has to be a 2010+ malibu and ford escape, clam shell e-reader?...just :wtf:

I said earlier in the thread the whole movie had anachronistic shyt in it because it was supposed to feel like a nightmare. That's why you couldn't place what year it was, and why the police didn't really have a presence. They just showed up. Parents too. No authority figures or help whatsoever.

Whether or not you like that :manny: but it wasn't just random shyt in the movie for no reason.

Purposely done. Movie is supposed to have a surrwal vibe and is supposed to give you a feeling of the "unnatural". That something isn't quite right.

The surreal and almost dream-like nature of the world is supposed to make the tonal shift after she gets infected with the It turn almost into a nightmare. It's why It is never explained or just is.

You've ever had those nightmares where something is constantly chasing you and you can never move fast enough to get away from it? How it can look like people you know (Because images in dreams always take the form of someone you've seen).

This would have probably ended up as my fav horror movie of all time if only they had stuck to their own rules and not had such a shytty third act.

Even still I love rewatching the film. The premise is so simple but so damn good. The look and tone of the film is so unsettling and surreal and creepy. The score is so odd for a horror film but it matches the anachronistic nature of the setting. There are just so many elements that I love, that ir depresses me that it got some of the simple stuff wrong. I agree with pretty much everything Tarantino had to say about it

“the best premise I've seen in a horror film in a long, long, long time,” says Tarantino. “It's one of those movies that’s so good that you start getting mad at it for not being great. The fact that he didn't take it all the way makes me not just disappointed but almost a little angry.”

There was no set rules though. The guy that laid out how the monster operates was basically guessing.

I want to know what the monster is, why it's there, is there a way to stop it, why does it transfer like a vd, where are the parents, why is the friend zoned friend so eager to get murked? Great cinematography, and soundtrack, nice creepy feel but ending fell flat and there was 0 payoff to the mystery of the monster
